Bears Softball sweep the Lamar Port Arthur Lady Seahawks

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Lamar State Port Arthur Lady Seahawks met on the diamond this afternoon at Hartley Vey Sports Complex (Oak Villa). The Bears offense was on point this afternoon as they would walk off with the 4-3 extra inning game one victory and the 9-1 run rule game two victory.

Game One

After a Lady Seahawks rally to tie the game at three, in the sixth inning, the Bears would walk off with the 4-3 victory in the eighth inning.

The Bears would open the scoring when they would plate two runs, in the first inning. Desi Robinson would reach on a Seahawks error and advanced to third via a single by Molly Sistrunk to left field. Sistrunk would advance to second on the throw. Kylee  Dulyea would single to right field scoring Robinson and Sistrunk.

Baton Rouge added a run to their lead, in the third inning, when Molly Sistrunk would hit an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Kyle's Dulyea would be next and she would each on an error and Sistrunk would score on the play to give the Bears the 3-0 lead.

The Lady Seahawks would inch closer, in the top of the fourth, when they would plate two runs but they still trailed the Bears; 3-2

Lamar Port Arthur would scratch across a run, in the top of the sixth, to tie the game at three.

The game would be tied at the end of regulation. The Lady Seahawks would go down in order the top of the eighth inning. Molly Sistrunk, for the Bears would be placed on second. Kylea Dulyea would lay down a sac bunt and reach on a fielder's choice as Sistrunk would advance to third on the play. Lily Wainwright would hit a single up the middle scoring Sistrunk to help the Bears walk off with the 4 to 3 game one victory.

Ashton Duhon started in the circle for the Bears. Ashton pitched 3.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Olivia Burns ( 3.0 innings ) and Bailey Smith (1.2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. Bailey Smith was credited with the victory for the Bears. A. Armstrong started in the circle for the Lady Seahawks and took the loss. Armstrong pitched 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 4.

Lamar State Port Arthur outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 7. The Lady Seahawks committed five errors in the ballgame compared to 2 for the Bears.

Bears Game One Highlights 

Desi Robinson had 1 run.

Molly Sistrunk went 2 for 4 with 3 runs.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Eve Fruge' went 1 for 3

Lily Wainwright went 2 for 4 with the game winning RBI.

Laine Sullivan went 1 for 3.

 

Game Two

The Baton Rouge Bears would get their bats going early and often in today's second game as they would score at least one run in four of the sixing inning today enroute to the 9-1 run rule victory over the Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks.

The Bears get on the board first via a lead off solo homer by Kylea Dulyea to centerfield to take the early 1-0 lead. The Seahawks would tie the game at one in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Bears would load the bases via a walk by Molly Sistrunk and back to back hit by pitches with Ashlyn Hebert and Lily Wainwright. Eve Fruge' would single up the middle driving in Sistrunk and Hebert on the play. After four inning, the Bears led the Lady Seahawks 3-1.

Kylee Dulyea would stay hot at the plate as she would hit a double to centerfield, in the bottom of the fifth and she would score when Ashlyn Hebert would replace her at second with a double of her own to left field. Lily Wainwright would hit a triple to centerfield scoring Hebert on the play. After five innings, the Bears held a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Essynce Wallace would pinch hit for Kennedy Kelly and reach by being hit by a pitch. Wallace would be moved to second via a ground out by Laine Sullivan and she would steal third. Desi Robinson would reach via a walk. Molly Sistrunk would hit an infield single scoring Wallace and Robinson. Meaux Carroll would pinch hit for Dulyea and hit a double to left field. Hannah Abshire would pinch hit for Ashlyn Hebert and she would hit a triple to right field scoring Sistrunk and Carroll to seal the 9-1 six inning run rule victory. 

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and earned the victory. Maddie pitched 6 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3. M. Guerrero started in the circle for the Seahawks and was credited with the loss. She pitched 5 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits while walking 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Lamar State Port Arthur 10 to 5. The Lady Seahawks committed one error in the ball game.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights

Laine Sullivan went 1 for 3 with 1 BB.

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 3

Desi Robinson had 1 run and 1 BB.

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

Kylee Dulyea went 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

Meaux Carroll went 1 for 1 with @ run.

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for 2 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

Hannah Abshire went 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs.

Lily Wainwright went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Eve Fruge' went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

 

With the sweep the Bears improved to 19-17 while the Lady Seahawks fell to 10-26 on the season.

The Bears will travel to Eunice next Saturday March 30, 2024 to take on the LSUE Lady Bengals in a doubleheader starting at 12 pm at Lady Bengals Stadium.
