Bears split with the #6 Jones College Lady Bobcats

The Baton Rouge Bears and the #6 Jones College Lady Bobcats met on the diamond this afternoon for a pair of games at Hartley-Vey Sports Complex. The Bears and the Lady Bobcats would split today's series with the Lady Bobcats winning game one 6-0 and the Bears winning game two 4-2.

Game One

Jones College Bobcats used one big inning to propel them to the 6-0 game one victory. 

The Lady Bobcats would get on the board first when they would plate five runs, in the top of the third inning. The Lady Bobcats would get aggressive on the base paths to score three runs then they would tact on two more runs via a two run homer to left field by J Sawyer.

The Bears would load the bases, in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Eve Fruge' would get the Bears first hit to left field and Molly Sistrunk and pinch hitter Meaux Carroll would draw back to back walks. The Bears would leave the bases loaded. After five inning, the Lady Bobcats would hold a 5-0 lead over the Bears. 

The Lady Bobcats would add an insurance run, in the top of the seventh inning, to take a 6-0 lead over the Bears. The Lady Bobcats would shutdown the Bears, in the bottom of the seventh inning, to take the 6-0 game one victory.

Ashton Duhon started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. Duhon pitched 2 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Bailey Smith (2.0 innings), Olivia Burns (2.0 innings) and Essynce Wallace (1.0 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. M. Vinson started on the mound for the Lady Bobcats and earned the victory. She pitched 7 innings allowing 0;runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6.

The Lady Bobcats outhit the Bears 11 to 3. The Bears committed two errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Eve Fruge' went 1 for 2

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 3.

Molly Sistrunk had 1 BB.

Meaux Carroll had 1BB.

Kennedy Kelly went 1 for 3.

Ashlyn Hebert was HBP.

Game Two

The Bears would score early to take an early advantage. Bear's pitcher Maddie Robinson would keep the Lady Bobcats out of sync at the plate all game thus leading the Bears to the 4-2 victory.

The Bears would get on the board first with a run. Aubrie Shaw and Mary Wicke would draw back to back walks. Shaw would be moved over to third on a sac fly by Lily Wainwright and she would steal home for the Bears' first run of the ball game.

The Bears would open the second inning with back to back walks by Ashlyn Hebert and Meaux Carroll. Eve Fruge' would fly out to centerfield but both runners would tag up and advance 60 feet. Kennedy Kelly would hit a sac fly to right field and Hebert would tag and score on the play. Desi Robinson would reach on an error scoring Carroll from third for the Bears. Aubrie Shaw would draw a walk to load the bases with Bears. Mary Wicke would also draw a walk driving in Laine Sullivan, who reached on a walk. The Bears would plate three runs, in the bottom of the second inning, to take a 4-0 lead over the Lady Bobcats.

The Bobcats would get on the board via two solo homers by J. Sawyer and M. Fontenot, in the  fourth inning, but they still trailed the Bears 4-2. Maddie Robinson would shutout the Lady Bobcats for the finals three inning to seal the 4-2 Bears game two victory.

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and earned the victory. Maddie pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 4. A. Prejean started in the circle for the Lady Bobcats and took the loss. She pitched 1.2 innings allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on O hits while walking 7 and striking out 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Jones College 4 to 3. Jones College committed three errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Desi Robinson went 1 for 3

Aubrie Shaw  had 1 run and 2 BB.

Mary Wicke had 2 BB and 1 RBI.

Lily Wainwright had 1 RBI.

Meaux Carroll had 1 BB and 1 run.

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for w with 1 run.

Kennedy Kelly had 1 RBI.

Laine Sullivan had 1 BB and 1 Run.

Eve Fruge' went 1 for 3

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 1.

 

With the split the Bears improved to 17-17, while the Lady Bobcats improved to 17-7 on the season.

Jones College leads the overall series with 26 wins and 2 losses over Baton Rouge. This is the second time in program history that the Bears would defeat the Lady Bobcats. 

The Bears will return to action next Friday March 22, 2024 as they will host the Lamar State Port Arthur Lady Seahawks in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Hartley Vey Sports Complex ( Oak Villa)
