Bears sweep the John Melvin University Millers

The Baton Rouge Bears played the John Melvin University Millers this afternoon at Hartley-Vey Sports Complex. The Bears sweep the Millers 8-5 and 7-2.

Game One

The Bears would get on the board first when Molly Sistrunk would reach on an infield single and she would score on a ground rule double by Kylee Dulyea. After one inning, the Bears led 1-0 over the Millers.

The Millers would tie the game at one when they would load the base in the second inning and Bears pitcher Olivia Burns would walk home the run. The Bears would regain the lead, in the bottom of the second inning, when they would plate one run. Essynce Wallace would single to left field and score on an Aubrie Shaw single up the middle. After two innings the Bears led the Millers 2-1.  The Millers would retake the lead with two runs on the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Bears would respond and tie the game at three with a run in the bottom of the third. Ashlyn Hebert would lead off the inning with a single to centerfield, then steal second and advance to third on a Millers' error. Mary Wicke would draw a walk. Kennedy Kelly would hit a sacrifice fly driving in Hebert to tie the game at 3. The Milers would again pick up a run in the top of the fourth inning to retake the lead 4-3. The Bears would plate five runs, in the sixth inning, to take a 8 to 4 lead over the Millers. Kennedy Kelly would lead off the sixth inning with a single up the middle. Aubrie Shaw would draw a walk. Desi Robinson would hit a single up the middle scoring Kelly and Shaw. The Bears would load the bases with back to back walks by Molly Sistrunk and Kylee Dulyea. Ashlyn Hebert would ground out to the third basemen but Robinson would score on the play. Mary Wicke would single to left field driving in Sistrunk and Meaux Carroll, who pinch ran for Dulyea. Bailey Smith would get a fly out and two strikeouts to help the Bears secure the 8 to 4 comeback victory over the Millers.

Olivia Burns started in the circle for the Bears.  Olivia pitched 3 innings allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits while walking one. Bailey Smith pitched in relief for the Bears and was credited with the victory. Bailey pitched  4 innings allowing 0 runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4. #13 started in the circle for the Millers and took the loss. She pitched six innings allowing 8 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits while walking 5 and striking out out 1.

John Miller University outhit Baton Rouge 11 to 9. The Millers committed three errors compared to one for the Bears.

 

Bears Game One Highlights:

Aubrie Shaw went 2 for 3 with 1 run, 1 BB and 1 RBI.

Desi Robinson went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs,

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 2 with 2 BB and 2 runs.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 3 with 1BB and 1 RBI.

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Mary Wicke went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 2 RBIs.

Kennedy Kelly went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Essynce Wallace went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

 

Game Two

Baton Rouge would score at least one run in four of the six inning of today's ball game enroute to the 7 to 2 victory over the John Melvin University Millers. 

The Millers would get on the board first with a run, in the top of the first inning. The Bears would score three runs, in the bottom of the first, to take the early 3-1 lead. Aubrie Shaw would lead off with a walk and Desi Robinson would reach via an error.  Desi Robinson and Aubrie Shaw would double steal as Shaw would steal home and Robinson second. Kylee Dulyea would triple to right field scoring Robinson for the second run of the frame. Ashlyn Hebert would ground out to the first basemen but Dulyea would score on the play for the third run of the frame.

Baton Rouge would tact on another run in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 4-1. Eve Fruge' would lead off with a single to left field and would score on a Desi Robinson single to left field.

The Bears would add to their lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning;5-1. Ashlyn Hebert and Lily Wainwright would draw back to back walks. Molly Sistrunk would double to left field scoring Hebert.

The Bears would hit back to back doubles by Lily Wainwright and Kennedy Kelly scoring a run, in the bottom of the fifth inning. Molly Sistrunk would draw a walk and score on a single to right field by Eve Fruge' for the Bears second run of the frame. The Bears lead after five inning 7-1.

The Millers continued to fight and scratch till the end as they would score one run in the top of the seventh inning but it was not enough as the Bears would defeat the Millers 7 to 2.

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and earned the victory. Maddie pitched 6 innings allowing 1 run on five hits while walking 3 and striking out 6. Macy Castleman (.1 innings ) and Jennifer Fontenot  (.2 innings) in relief for the Bears. #26 started in the circle for the Millers.

Baton Rouge outhit John Melvin 9 to 6. The Millers committed one error in the ballgame. 

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Desi Robinson went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1RBI.

Ashlyn Hebert had 1 run and 1 RBI.

Lily Wainwright went 1 for 1 with 1 run and 2 BB.

Kennedy Kelly went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and 1 BB.

Eve Fruge' went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Hannah Abshire went 1 for 3.

 

With the sweep the Bears improved to 16-16, while the Millers fell to 12-19 on the season.

The Bears will host the Jones College Bobcats this Thursday March 14, 2024 at Hartley Vey Sports Complex ( Oak Villa). First pitch is set for 1 pm.
