Bears Bats Come Alive to defeat Northwest Shoals Patriots

The Baton Rouge Bears faced the Northwest Shoal Patriots in their second game today at East Central Community College. The Bears would get their bats going early and often enroute to the 13 to 0, fifth inning run rule victory.

The Bears would score first with three runs, in the bottom of the first inning. Hannah Abshire would lead off with a single to left field. Aubrie Shaw would draw a walk. Abshire would score on a Desi Robinson double up the middle for the Bears first run of the game. Mary Wicke would ground out but Shaw would score on the play. Ashlyn Hebert would lay down a sac bunt to score Robinson from third. After one inning, the Bears led 3-0.

The Bears would add to their lead, in the second inning with a run;4-0. Essynce Wallace, who reached on a walk, would score on a Kennedy Kelly double up the middle.

Baton Rouge would erupt for seven runs, in the third inning, to take a commanding 11-0 lead over the Patriots.  The Bears would load the bases with a walk by Desi Robinson and back to back singles by Meaux Carroll and Ashlyn Hebert. Lily Wainwright would hit a double to centerfield scoring Robinson and Carroll. Essynce Wallace would single to left field driving in Hebert. Kennedy Kelly would hit a fly ball to right field and Wainwright and Sistrunk( who reached on a fielder's choice) would score on the hit. Wallace would score on a fielding error during the Kelly hit. Finally, Hannah Abshire would ground out to the pitcher but Kelly would score on the play for the Bears seventh run of the frame.

The Bears would tact on two more runs to their lead in the fourth inning;13-0. Meaux Carroll would lead off with a walk then Ashlyn Hebert would reach on an error. Olivia Burns would hit a pinch hit single to left field scoring Carroll. Essynce Wallace would reach by being hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kennedy Kelly would hit a pop fly to centerfield but Hebert would tag up and score on the fly out. After four inning, the Bears led the Patriots 13-0.

The Patriots would show some fight, in the fifth inning, as they would lead off with back to back singles. The Bears would turn a double play when Meaux  Carroll would field the ball and touch her bag at third then throw over to Essynce Wallace to get the runner out at second.  Desi Robinson would catch the final line out to seal the  Bears 13-0 five inning run rule victory.

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and earned the victory. She pitched five innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 6.  #17 was credited for the loss for the Patriots. She pitched three innings allowing 11 runs (9 earned) on 8 hits while walking 3 and striking out 1.

Baton Rouge outhit Northwest Shoals 9 to 2. Northwest Shoals committed two errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game Highlights:

Hannah Abshire went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Aubrie Shaw had 1 run and 1 BB.

Desi Robinson went 1 for 2 with 2 runs, 1RBI, 1 double and 1 BB.

Mary Wicke had 1 RBI.

Meaux Carroll went 1 for 1 with 2 runs and 1 BB.

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

Lily Wainwright went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Molly Sistrunk had 1 run.

Olivia Burns went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI.

Essynce Wallace went 1 for 1 with 2 runs, 1 BB and 1 RBI.

Kennedy Kelly went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 4 RBIs.

 

With the victory the Bears improved to 14-15, while the Patriots fell to 6-15 on the season.

The Bears will host the John Melvin University Millers on Tuesday March 12, 2024 in a doubleheader at Hartley -Vey Sports Complex (Oak Villa). First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 1 pm.
