Bears split with East Central Lady Warriors

The Baton Rouge Bears and the East Central Lady Warriors met today in the first of three meeting this week between the two teams. Todays games were played at Hartley-Vey Sports complex then the series will shift on Sunday to Decatur, Mississippi. The Bears and the Lady Warriors split the pair of game today with East Central winning game one 2-0 and Baton Rouge winning game two 10-2.

Game One

It was a pitching duel this afternoon in game one, between Bear's pitcher Maddie Robinson and East Central's pitcher Emily Collins. Both pitchers combined to strikeout twelve people, Robinson (7 batters) and Collins (5 batters). Runs were at a premium this afternoon. East Central would score just enough runs to take the 2-0 victory over the Bears.

The Lady Warriors would get on the board first with a solo homer by Lauren Dunbar to left center. East Central would add to their lead with a run in the top of the fifth inning;2-0. 

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. Robinson pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned) off 4 hits while striking out 7. Emily Collins started in the circle for the Lady Warriors and earned the victory. She pitched 7 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 5.

East Central outhit Baton Rouge 4 to 2. Baton Rouge committed one error in the ballgame.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Desi Robinson went 1 for 3.

Aubrie Shaw had 2 BB.

Kennedy Kelly went 1 for 2.

Kylee Dulyea had 1 BB.

 

Game Two

The Bears bats would come alive in game two as they would defeat the Lady Warriors 10-2 in a five inning run rule.

East Central Lady Warriors would get on the board first via a solo homer by R.Bryan in the third inning. The Bears would respond in the bottom of the third with four runs to take the lead. Essynce Wallace would reach on a walk, Kennedy Kelly would follow with a bloop single to centerfield and Laine Sullivan would battle and draw an 11 pitch walk to load the bases. Desi Robinson would hit a sac fly to deep center field scoring Wallace who tagged on the play. Molly Sistrunk would hit a three run homer to left field giving the Bears the 4-1 lead.

Baton Rouge would add to their lead, in the bottom of the fourth inning, with three runs; 7-1. Mary Wicke would lead off with a double to right field and score on a double by Kennedy Kelly. Laine Sullivan would draw a walk and her and Kelly would score on a Desi Robinson single up the middle.

The Lady Warriors would get a run back, in the top of the fifth inning, when S. Jones would hit a solo homer over the diving Laine Sullivan in left field. The Lady Warriors would load the bases but some great defensive plays by the Bears would get them out of the inning and hold the Lady Warriors to only one run in the frame.

Baton Rouge would tact on three more runs, in the bottom of the fifth inning. Molly Sistrunk would lead off with a double  to left field then Mary Wicke would draw a walk. Sistrunk and Wicke would score on a Meaux Carroll triple to right field.  Kennedy Kelly would be hit by a pitch then Lane Sullivan would double to left field scoring Carroll to seal the 10-2 run rule victory.

Ashton Duhon started in the circle for the Bears.Duhon pitched 2.1 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. Olivia Burns was credited with the victory for the Bears.  Olivia Burns (1.2 innings), Macy Castleman (0.1 innings), Bailey Smith (0.2 innings)pitched in relief for the Bears. J. Aube started in the circle for the Lady Warriors and took the loss. She pitched 3 innings allowing 4 runs on 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 3.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Desi Robinson went 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs.

Molly Sistrunk went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs and 1 homer.

Mary Wicke went 1 for 2 with 2 runs.

Meaux Carroll went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 triple.

Kennedy Kelly went 2 for 2 with 3 runs and 1 RBI.

Laine Sullivan went 1 for 1 with 2 runs, 2 BB and 2 RBIs.

 

With the split the Bears improved to 13-15 while the Lady Warriors improved to 14-4 on the season.

The Bears will travel to Decatur, Mississippi this Sunday March 10 to face Easton Central at 1 pm and Northwest -Shoals Community College at 3 pm.
