Bears split the day with the Bishop State Lady Wildcats

Saturday March 2, 2024:

Perkinston,MS : Softball 

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Bishop State Lady Wildcats would open day two of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs Classic. The two teams would split the day as the Bears would win game one 7 to 4 and the Lady Wildcats would win game two 4-1.

Game one

Baton Rouge would get their bats going early as they would defeat the Bishop State Lady Wildcats 7 to 4.

Bishop State Lady Wildcats would get on the board first with a run,in the bottom of the first inning, to take the early lead;1-0. Baton Rouge would take the lead with two runs, in the top of the third inning;2-1.Desi Robinson would lead off the inning by reaching on a walk then Aubrie Shaw would single to left field. Molly Sistrunk would hit a single to right field scoring Robinson for the Bears first run of the game. Ashlyn Hebert would hit an infield single that would score Sistrunk from third.

The Lady Wildcats would retake the lead, in the bottom of the fourth inning, with three runs. One of those runs was via a lead off solo homer by K. Bryant. After four qinning, the Lady Wildcats led the Bears 4 to 2. The Bears would respond and score two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at four. Molly Sistrunk would each via a walk then Kylee Dulyea would single to right field. Sistrunk would score on a sacrifice fly by Ashlyn Hebert.  Eve Fruge' would hit a line drive and reach on an error by the Wildcat's center fielder. On that same play the Bears would score two runs to retake the lead 5-4 over the Lady Wildcats. The Bears would score two runs in the top of the seventh inning to increase their lead to 7-4. Lane Sullivan would each on a walk and Eve Fruge' would single to centerfield. They would both score on a Mary Wicke double to left field.

The Lady Wildcats would threaten in the bottom of the seventh inning but a solid defensive effort by the Bears would end the threat and preserve the 7 to 4 game one victory.

Olivia Burns started in the circle for the Bears. Burns pitched 3.1 innings allowing 4 runs(2 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 3. Maddie Robinson pitched 3.2 inning in relief for the Bears victory. E. Mooney started in the circle for the Lady Wildcats and as credited with the loss. She pitched 7 innings allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits while walking 8 and striking out 3.

Baton Rouge outhit Bishop State 9 to 8. Baton Rouge committed two errors compared to one for Bishop State.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Desi Robinson went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1 run.

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 4

Molly Sistrunk went 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 3

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Lane Sullivan had 2 runs.

Eve Fruge' went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1 run.

Mary Wicke went 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs.

Kennedy Kelly went 1 for 3 with 1 BB.

 

Game Two

Game two between the Bears and the Lady Wildcats turned into a pitching duel with very little offense. The Lady Wildcats were able to find more of a rhythm at the plate to take the 4-1 victory over the Bears.

The Lady Wildcats would get on the board first with a solo homer by O Watkins to left field to grab the early lead. The Lady Wildcats would extend their lead with a run in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning; 4-0. The Bears would finally get on the board with a run in the sixth inning. Desi Robinson would lead off the inning with a single then Aubrie Shaw would reach by being hit by a pitch. Molly Sistrunk would reach on an error and would score Robinson for the Bears first and only run of the game.  The Bears would load the bases in the seventh inning but like all game long was unable to find that timely hit to scratch across runs thus falling 4-1 to the Bishop State Lady Wildcats.

Macy Castleman started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. She pitched 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. Jennifer Fontenot pitched 3 innings in relief for the Bears.  E. Gilmore started in the circle for the Lady Wildcats and earned the win. She pitched 7 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while walking 4 and striking out 9.

Bishop State outhit Baton Rouge 6 to 4. The Lady Wildcats committed one error in the ballgame.

Game Two Bears Highlights:

Desi Robinson went 2 for 4 with 1 run.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 3.

Kennedy Kelly went 1 for 3.

 

Bears end the Bulldogs Classic with. 3-1 record on the weekend.

 

The Bears will host East Central Community College on Thursday March 7, 2024 in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Hartley-Vey Sports Complex (Oak Villa).
