Bears fall to Co-Lin Lady Wolves to conclude Hinds JUCO Classic

The Baton Rouge Bears would close out the Hinds JUCO Classic with a match up against the Copiah- Lincoln Lady Wolves. Baton Rouge would outhit Co-Lin but struggled to find that timely hit to score some runs. The Lady Wolves would defeat the Bears 7 to 2.

Co-Lin would get on the board first, in the top of the first inning,  via a two-run homer by A. Richardson. The Lady Wolves would tact on two more runs via a Bear's error, in the second inning,  to increase their lead to 4-0. The Lady Wolves would scratch across two more runs, in the third inning, via a single, double and a triple. Baton Rouge would load the bases, in the bottom of the third inning, but they could not scratch across a run thus they trailed Co-Lin 6-0.

Baton Rouge would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs. Ashlyn Hebert would lead off the inning with a walk. Lily Wainwright would be next, and she would double to right field scoring Hebert. Laine Sullivan would hit an infield single scoring Wainwright.

Co-Lin would add an insurance run in the top of the seven innings when A. Richardson would hit a solo home run, her second of the ball game. Co-Lin would hold Baton Rouge scoreless over the final three innings to seal the 7 to 2 victory.

Essynce Wallace started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. She pitched 3 innings allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits while walking 3. Jennifer Fontenot pitched 4 innings in relief for the Bears. K. McCorkle earned the victory for the Lady Wolves. She pitched 3 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while walking 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Co-Lin 9 to 8. Baton Rouge committed one error in the ballgame.

Bears Highlights:

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 3.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 4.

Ashlyn Hebert went 2 for 3 with 1 run.

Lily Wainwright went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Laine Sullivan went 1 for 2 with 1 BB and 1 RBI

Kennedy Kelly went 3 for 3.

 

With the loss the Bears fell to 9-11, while Co-Lin improved 3-1 on the season.

 

The Bears will travel to Wesson, Mississippi on Tuesday February 27, 2024, as they take on the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
