Vicksburg, MS: Softball

The Baton Rouge Bears would take on the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs, in the nightcap, of day one of the Hinds JUCO Classic. Baton Rouge struggled at the plate only getting two hits compared to nine for the Lady Bulldogs.  Holmes would defeat Baton Rouge 9 to 0, in a sixth inning run rule game.

Holmes would score three runs in the second, two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth inning to secure the 9-0 run rule victory over Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge struggled at the plate to put a string of hits together to start a spark on the offensive side of the ball. The bright spot for the Bears was a two-hit day for Molly Sistrunk. Those were the only hits the Bears would get in the ballgame. 

Bailey Smith started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. Smith pitched 5 innings allowing 7 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 4. Olivia Burns pitched in relief for the Bears.  A. Sartin started in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. She pitched 6 innings for the victory. She allowed 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 3.

Holmes outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 2. Baton Rouge committed 2 errors compared to one for Holmes.

Bears Highlights:

Molly Sistrunk went 2 for 2.

Baton Rouge will conclude the Hinds JUCO Classic on Saturday February 24, 2024 with an 11 am game against the Meridian Lady Eagles and a 4 pm match up with the NJCAA Division II defending national champions the Copiah- Lincoln Lady Wolves.
