Bears defeat Mississippi Delta in opening game of Hinds JUCO Classic

The Baton Rouge Bears Softball team opened the Hinds JUCO Classic in Vicksburg, Mississippi against the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans.  The Bears would score early and often enroute to the 11 to 1, five inning run rule victory over the Lady Trojans.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with two runs in the first inning. Aubrie Saw would lead off the game with a walk and then steal second. Desi Robinson would follow with a bunt single moving Shaw to third. Molly Sistrunk would ground out, but Shaw would score on the play.  Desi Robinson would score on a Kylee Dulyea sacrifice to increase the Bears lead to 2-0 over the Lady Trojans.

The Lady Trojans would score their lone run of the ball game, in the bottom of the second inning,  but still trailed the Bears 2-1.

Baton Rouge would add four runs to their lead in the top of the third inning to increase their lead to 6-1 over the Lady Trojans. Kennedy Kelly would lead off the inning with a walk and then she would steal second. Aubrie Shaw would follow with a infield single and Kennedy would advance to third on the play. Aubrie Shaw would steal second. Kelly would score on a Desi Robinson ground out. Shaw would score on a Kylee Dulyea single up the middle for the Bears second run of the frame. Mary Wicke would reach on an error. Both Dulyea and Wicke would score on a Lily Wainwright double.

The Bears would tact on three more runs, in the fifth inning, to increase their lead to 9-1. Aubrie Shaw and Olivia Burns would draw back-to-back walks. Molly Sistrunk would double to centerfield scoring Shaw. Essynce Wallace would reach on a Lady Trojans error scoring Abshire, (who pinch ran for Burns) and Sistrunk.

 

The Bears would stay hot at the plate as they would score two more runs, in the fifth inning, to increase their lead to 11-1. Lily Wainwright and Eve Fruge would open the inning with back-to-back singles. Wainwright and Fruge would move up 60 feet on a Laine Sullivan sac bunt. Wainwright would score on a pass ball. Kennedy Kelly would ground out to the first basemen, but Fruge would score on the play.

Essynce Wallace would slam the door on the Lady Trojans as she would get two strikeouts and one fly out to end the fifth inning and earn the Bears the 11 to 1, five innings run rule victory.

Essynce Wallace started in the circle for the Bears and earned the victory. She pitched 5 innings allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 7 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5. K. Stigall started in the circle for the Lady Trojans and pitched 3.1 innings allowing 9 runs (6 earned) on 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Mississippi Delta 9 to 7. Baton Rouge committed one error compared to 3 for Mississippi Delta.

Bears Highlights:

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 1 with 3 runs and 2 BB.

Desi Robinson went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 1 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Essynce Wallace went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI.

Lily Wainwright went 3 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Eve Fruge' went 1 for 2 with 1 run.

Kennedy Kelly had 1 RBI and 1 Run.

 

With the victory the Bears improved to 8-9, while Mississippi Delta fell to 0-12 on the season.

The Bears will face the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs, in the nightcap, of day one of the Hinds JUCO Classic at 5 pm.
