Bears split with Hinds Lady Eagles in Raymond

Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Raymond, Mississippi, this afternoon, to take on the Hinds Community College Lady Eagles at Rene T. Warren Field. These two ballclub last meet on the diamond last Friday February 9 in Baton Rouge.  Like that meeting, Baton Rouge would lose game one 7-2 and rebound to win game two 4-1.

 

Game One

Baton Rouge could not come back from an early deficient, in game one, thus falling 7-2 to the Hinds Lady Eagles.

Hinds would get on the board first with 2 runs, in the bottom of the first inning, via a two-run home run by T. Nelson to center field.  Baton Rouge would scratch across a run, in the top of the second inning, to inch closer 2-1. Kylee Dulyea would lead off the inning with a single to right field. Maddie Robinson would double to left field scoring Dulyea for the Bears first run of the ball game. The Lady Eagles would erupt for four runs, in the bottom of the second, to take a commanding 6 to 1 lead over the Bears. Hinds would add an insurance run, in the fourth inning, to take a 7-1 lead over the Bears. Baton Rouge would score a run in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as Hinds would defeat Baton Rouge 7 to 2. Kylee Dulyea would lead off the seventh inning with a double to left field. Mary Wicke would single to left field driving in Dulyea.

Jennifer Fontenot started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. She pitched 1.1 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Bailey Smith (0.0 inning) and Macy Castleman (4.2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. K. Forsyth started in the circle for the Lady Eagles and earned the victory. She pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4.

Hinds outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 7. Neither team committed an error in the ballgame.

Bears Game One Highlights

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 3.

Desi Robinson went 1 for 3.

Kylee Dulyea went 3 for 2 with 2 runs.

Maddie Robinson went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Mary Wicke went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Game Two

The Bears bats came alive in game two of today's doubleheader against the Lady Eagles. Baton Rouge would defeat Hinds 4-1.

Hinds would get on the board first with a run in the first inning to take an early advantage. Baton Rouge would respond with two runs, in the fourth inning, to regain a 2-1 lead over the Lady Eagles.  Kylee Dulyea and Mary Wicke would hit back-to-back singles. Molly Sistrunk would follow with a double up the middle scoring Dulyea and Wicke. The Bears would add a run to their lead, in the sixth inning, when Ashlyn Hebert would lead off with a single up the middle and she would score on a double by Mary Wicke to left field.  After six innings, the Bears led the Lady Eagles 3-1. The Bears would tact on an insurance run in the seventh inning when Hannah Abshire and Aubrie Shaw would both reach via a walk. Desi Robinson would double to right field scoring Abshire. That would be all the run support that Bears' pitcher Olivia Burns would need as she would pitch a complete game allowing only one run on four hits to earn the victory.

Olivia Burns pitched a complete game victory for the Bears. She pitched 7 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1.  E. Vicknair earned the loss for the Lady Eagles. She pitched 3.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Hinds 8 to 4. Baton Rouge committed 2 errors in the ball game.

Bears Game Two Highlights

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 3.

Desi Robinson went 1 for 4.

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for 4 with 1 run.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 2 with 1 run.

Mary Wicke went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Lily Wainwright went 1 for 1.

 

 

With the split the Bears improved to 6-6 while Hinds improved to 4-4 on the season.

 

Bears Softball will take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm on Tuesday February 20, 2024, at Hartley-Vey Sports Complex (Oak Villa)
