Bears Softball splits the day with Hinds Lady Eagles

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Hinds Lady Eagles squared off on the diamond, this afternoon, at Hartley-Vey Sports Complex (Oak Villa) in a pair of games. The Bears and the Lady Eagles split the day with the Hinds Lady Eagles winning game one 7-2 and the Baton Rouge Bears winning game two 3-2.

 

Game One

Hinds Lady Eagles got their bats going early and often as they would defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 7 to 2 in game one of today's doubleheader.

The Lady Eagles got on the board first, in the third inning, with a two run homer to left field by T Nelson to take the early advantage over the Bears.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Eagles would hit back-to-back doubles driving in a run. With two outs the Lady Eagles would hit a triple to centerfield driving in another run. The Lady Eagles led the Bears 4-0 after four innings. 

The Lady Eagles would tact on another a run, in the fifth inning, and two more runs, in the sixth innings, to increase their lead over the Bears to 7-0

The Bears would get on the board, in the bottom of the sixth inning, with a run.  Aubrie Shaw would hit a leadoff single then she would be moved to third when Desi Robinson would reach on an error.  Shaw would score on a sac fly by Keesley Ross, for the Bears' first run of the ballgame. 

The Bears would continue their fight as they would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was not enough as they would fall 7-2 to the Hinds Lady Eagles. Essynce Wallace would hit a double to left field and advance to third on an error then score when Mary Wickie would ground out.

Ashton Duhon started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. Ashton pitched 2 and one-third innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 1.  Bailey Smith (3.0 innings), and Essynce Wallace (1.2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. K. Forsyth started in the circle of the Lady Eagles. She pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while walking one.

 

Hinds outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 4. The Lady Eagles committed 3 errors compared to 2 for the Bears in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game One Highlights:

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 3.

Keesley Ross had 1 RBI.

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for 3.

Essynce Wallace had 1 Run.

Mary Wicke had 1 RBI.

Aubrie Shaw went 2 for 3 with 1 run.

 

Game Two

A late Bears rally and an outstanding pitching performance in the circle propels the Bears to the 3-2 victory over the Lady Eagles.

For the first three innings of the ballgame both team's pitchers kept the other side off balance and out of sync at the plate. The game was scoreless after three innings.

Hinds would break through in the fourth inning via a solo leadoff homer to left field by T. Nelson. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Aubrie Shaw would lead off and reach on an error. She was moved over to third with a sac bunt by Desi Robinson. Shaw would score on an Ashlyn Hebert single to right field to tie the game at one. The Bears and Lady Eagles would be all squared at one run at the end of four innings of play. 

The Lady Eagles would scratch across a run, in the top of the fifth inning, to retake the lead 2-1 over the Bears.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Aubrie Shaw singled to right field. Desi Robinson would follow with a double to left field putting Bears on second and third. Ashlyn Hebert would reach on a bunt single which would score Shaw to tie the game at two runs apiece. The Bears had runners on the corners with Kylee Dulyea at the plate. Kylee Dulyea would ground into a fielder's choice scoring D. Robinson thus giving the Bears a 3-2 lead.

Maddie Robinson would shut the door, in the bottom of the seventh inning,  when she would get back-to-back strikeouts and a ground out to end the ball and seal the victory for the Bears. 

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and earned the victory. M. Robinson pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 9. E. Vine started in the circle for the Lady Eagles and took the loss. She pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2.

 

Hinds outhit Baton Rouge 6 to 4. Both teams committed 2 errors in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights: 

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 3 with 2 runs.

Desi Robinson went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Ashlyn Hebert went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Kylee Dulyea had 1 RBI.

 

With the split Baton Rouge improved to 5-5 while Hinds improved to 3-3 on the season. Hinds leads the overall series with 7 wins and 3 losses over Baton Rouge.

 

The Bears will return to action next Friday February 16, 2024, as they will travel to Raymond, Mississippi to take on the Hinds Community College Lady Eagles. First pitch is set for 2 pm at Renee T Warren Field.
