Bears split the day with the Holmes Lady Bulldogs

The Baton Rouge Bears took a trip to Goodman, Mississippi, this afternoon, to take on the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs at Lady Bulldog Park. The Bears and the Lady Bulldogs split the day's games with the Lady Bulldogs winning game 9-0, in six innings and the Bears winning game two 2-0.

Game One

The Bears fell behind early, in game one, and could not catch up thus dropping game one to the Lady Bulldogs 9-0, in six innings.

The Lady Bulldogs would score four runs in the first to take an early advantage over the Bears. The Bulldogs would tact on two more runs, in the third inning, to increase their lead to 6-0. The Bears struggled at the plate. They could not find that timely hit that would give them some momentum. The Lady Bulldogs would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, when they would steal home followed by a C. Blaine two run homerun to left field.  The Bulldogs would win game one 9-0 in six innings.

Bailey Smith started in the circle for the Bears and earned the loss. She pitched a third of an inning allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. Macy Castleman (1.2 innings) and Olivia Burns (3.1 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. A. Sartin started in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs and earned the victory. She pitched a completed six inning game allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2.

Holmes outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 4. The Bears committed 2 errors.

Bears Highlights:

Laine Sullivan went 1 for 3.

Maddie Robinson went 1 for 3.

Mary Wicke went 1 for 2.

Keesley Ross went 1 for 2.

 

Game Two

In the nightcap, the Baton Rouge Bears would rebound to take the 2-0 victory behind an outstanding no hit pitching performance by freshman Maddie Robinson.

Baton Rouge Bears would get on the board first with a run in the second inning. Keesley Ross would hit a triple to right field, and she would score on a double to left field by Molly Sistrunk.

The game saw a great pitching performance from both teams' starting pitchers. They were able to keep the other team off rhythm throughout most of the game. Bears pitcher Maddie Robinson pitched a complete game  no hitter. Robinson struck out 9 while only walking 1. Holmes C. Tierce and M. Silley combined to only allow 2 runs on 3 hits while combining to strikeout 4 Bears.

The Bears would add an insurance run in the fifth inning when freshman Keesley Ross would lead off the inning with a solo homerun to left field.  

Maddie Robinson earned the victory for the Bears. C. Tierce took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs.

Baton Rouge outhit Holmes 3-0. Holmes committed one error in the ball game.

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Keesley Ross went 2 for 3 with a triple, and a homerun.

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 2 with a double.

 

With the split the Bears improved to 2-2 on the season while the Lady Bulldogs improved to 1-1 on the season.  Holmes still leads the overall series with 13 wins and 3 losses against Baton Rouge.

The Bears will take part in the Mardi Gras Invitational this Friday February 2 and Saturday February 3 in Youngsville, Louisiana. The full schedule of games can be found on our website www.brccathletics.com.
