Bears split with #8 Bossier Parish Lady Cavs

The Baton Rouge Bears had to the delay the start of the 2024 season by a day but it was well worth the wait. The Bears faced the #8 ranked Bossier Parish Lady Cavs at Hartley-Vey Sports Complex, this afternoon in a pair of games.  Both games turned out to be a pitching duel between the Bears and the Lady Cavs. The Bears would win game one 2-1 and the Lady Cavs would win game two 1-0.

Game one 

In game one,the Bears would use a late sixth inning run to seal the 2-1 victory over the Bossier Parish Lady Cavs.

The Bears would get on the board first with a one run, in the first inning,  to take the early lead. Maddie Robinson would reach on an error by the Lady Cavs shortstop. Robinson would then steal second and score on a Kylee Dulyea single up the middle.

During the next four innings it was a pitching duel between Bear's pitcher Ashton Duhon and Lady Cav's pitcher B. Moreno. Both pitchers kept the other teams hitters off balanced in those four innings.

The Lady Cavs would scratch across a run, in the top of the sixth,  when they would reach on a error by the Bears. The runner would then get bunted over to second. She would steal home and score when the Bears overthrew third trying to catch her stealing. 

In bottom of the sixth inning, Desi Robinson would lead off with a single up the middle. Desi would advance to second then third on a wild pitch. Molly Sistrunk would hit a sharp line drive to the Lady Cavs shortstop which she bobbled allowing Desi to score from third.  After six innings, the Bears held a 2-1 lead over the Lady Cavs.

The Lady Cavs threaten, in the top of the seventh, but two great defensive plays by catcher Kaylee Dulyea throwing two runners out helped preserve the 2-1 victory.

Ashton Duhon started in the circle for the Bears and pitched a complete game. She earned the victory for the Bears. Ashton pitched seven innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2.  B. Moreno started in the circle for the Lady Cavs. She pitched five and two thirds innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4. R. Glenn pitched in relief for the Lady Cavs.

The Bears outhit the Lady Cavs 4 to 3. Both teams committed two errors.

 

Bears Game one Highlights

Desi Robinson went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Lily Wainwright went 1 for 2

 

Game two

In game two the Bears held the Lady Cavs hitless but lost the game 1-0. Game two was another great pitching duel between Bear's pitcher Maddie Robinson and Lady Cav's  pitcher M. Larue.

The first four innings were a good ole fashion pitching duel between Bears Maddie Robinson and Lady Cavs M. Larue. Both pitchers kept the other teams hitters guessing for most of the game and were unable to scratch across any runs.

The Bears had there chance, in the fourth inning, to score a couple of runs when Kylee Dulyea would single to right field. Hannah Abshire would pinch run for Dulyea. Molly Sistrunk would follow with a walk to have Bears on first and second. Meaux Carrol would be called to pinch hit and she would lay down a great sacrifice bunt to move the runners up to second and third with two outs. The Lady Cavs would get out of the inning when Keesley Ross pop fly would be caught in foul territory.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Cavs would load the bases forcing Maddie Robinson out the game for the Bears. Jennifer Fontonet would replace Robinson and walk the next Lady Cav driving in a run. With the run the Lady Cavs lead the Bears 1-0.

 

The Bears could not mustard a run thus falling 1-0 in game two against the Bossier Parish Lady Cavs.

 

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. Maddie pitched four and two thirds innings allowing 1 run on 0 hits while striking out 2 and walking 3. M. Larue earned the victory for the Lady Cavs. She pitched a complete game allowing 0 runs in 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 14.

 

The Bears outhit the Lady Cavs 3 to 0. The Bears committed 1 error.

 

Game Two Lady Bears Highlights

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 3

Keesley Ross went 1 for 3

Meaux Carroll had a great sac bunt

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 2

 

With today's game split both teams improve to 1-1 on the season.

 

The Bears will be on the road this Tuesday January 30 as they travel to Goodman, Mississippi to take on Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
