Lady Bears split with #4 Jones College Lady Bobcats

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears concluded their regular season home schedule with a doubleheader against #4 Jones College Lady Bobcats, this afternoon, at Traction. The Lady Bears and the Lady Bobcats would split a pair of games. The Lady Bears would win game one in a dramatic walk off, in the eighth inning;3-2. The Lady Bobcats would use a huge, sixth inning, to defeat the Lady Bears 13-2, in game two.

Game One

The Lady Bears walk it off in the eighth inning to defeat Jones College 3 to 2.

The Lady Bears would get on the board first with a run in the first inning. Alara Taylor would hit a double and she would score on a Kelsie B. Etheridge double for the Lady Bears first run of the game. The Lady Bears would add another run in the second inning. Adelyn Fisher would single, be moved over to third on a beautiful sac bunt by Ryen Lawrence and she would score on an Isabella Landeche sac fly. After two inning, the Lady Bears led 2-0. Jones College  Lady Bobcats would tie the ball game, in the third inning, with back-to-back homers by S. Ballard and L. Lindsey. The game would become a pitcher's duel for the next four innings as both teams struggled to plate a run. The game would be tied at two after seven innings thus forcing extra innings. Starting in the eighth inning a runner started on second and the Lady Bobcats would get another runner on via a hit by pitch, but both would be stranded via two ground outs and a strikeout. In the bottom of the eighth, Landeche would start on second, she would be moved over to third by a Cierra Triegle sac bunt. Kristyn Lormand would hit a single up the middle scoring Landeche and the game winning run. 

The Lady Bears defeat the Lady Bobcats 3-2. This is the first time in program history that the Lady Bears have defeated the Lady Bobcats.

Marley Olivier started in the circle for the Lady Bears. Marley pitched six innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 7. Kristyn Lormand pitched in relief for the Lady Bears and earned the victory. Kristyn pitched two innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hits while striking out 1. K. Walker started in the circle for the Lady Bobcats and took the loss. She pitched seven and one third innings allowing 3 runs on 2 hits while striking out 4.

Baton Rouge outhit Jones College 7 to 5. Baton Rouge committed one error in the ball game.

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 4 with the game winning RBI

Kelsie B. Etheridge went 1 for 3 with RBI

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Isabella Landeche had an RBI sac fly and 1 run

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 3

 

Game Two

An explosive sixth inning, by the Jones College Lady Bobcats, would lead them to the 13-2 victory over the Baton Rouge Lady Bears.

The Lady Bobcats would get the scoring started with a run, in the first inning, to take the early lead. The Lady Bobcats would tact on two more runs to their lead, in the second inning;3-0. The Lady Bears would get on the board via a lead off solo homer by Kristyn Lormand, in the third inning. After three innings, the Lady Bobcats led 3-1. The Lady Bobcats would add three more runs to their lead, in the fourth inning; 6-1. Jones College would add another run to their lead in the fifth inning;7-1. The Lady Bobcats would continue their hot hitting, in the sixth inning, as they would plate six more runs to extend their lead over the Lady Bears to 13-1. The Lady Bears would continue to fight as Ryen Lawrence would lead off, the bottom of the sixth, with a triple off the green monster in right field and she would score on a pass ball but that's all the Lady Bears could mustard, as the Lady Bobcats would win game two; 13-2.

Kelsie B. Etheridge started in the circle for the Lady Bears and took the loss. KB pitched three innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. Kristyn Lormand and Sophia Tanner pitched in relief for the Lady Bears. L. Henson started in the circle for the Lady Bobcats and earned the victory. She pitched five innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 6.

Lady Bears Game Two Highlights

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI 

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 2

Ryen Lawrence went 1 for 1 with 1 run and 2BB

Emma McCormick went 1 for 3

 

Jones College outhit Baton Rouge 16 to 2. Both teams committed one error in the ball game.

 

With the split the Lady Bears improve to 19-27, while the Lady Bobcats improve to 37-8 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will travel to Galveston, Texas this Sunday May 1, 2022, to conclude their 2022 season versus the Galveston Whitecaps. The doubleheader will start at 2 pm.
