Lady Bears drop a pair of games to #8 LSUE Lady Bengals

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the LSUE Lady Bengals met this afternoon in a doubleheader at Pete Goldsby Field. LSUE Lady Bengals would sweep the Baton Rouge Lady Bears, 10-2 and 6-,1 this afternoon at Traction.

Game One

The Lady Bengals would grab an early lead, in which, the Lady Bears could not rebound from, as the LSUE Lady Bengals would win game one 10-2.

The LSUE Lady Bengals would get on the board first with two runs, in the second inning. The Lady Bengals would extend their lead, in the third inning, via a two-run homer by M. Prejean to left field. After three inning, the Lady Bengals led 4-0. The Lady Bengals would continue to stay hot at the plate as they would score five runs, in the fourth inning, to take a 9-0 lead over the Lady Bears. Three of the five runs were via a M Cashdollar homer to left field. The Lady Bears would not quit as they would score two runs, in the bottom of the fifth inning, to keep the game alive. Sarah Petite would pinch hit and hit a double to centerfield. With two outs, Kristyn Lormand would hit a homer to left field scoring two runs and extending the game. LSUE would add a run to their lead, in the top of the seventh inning;10-2. The Lady Bengals would shut down the Lady Bears, in order, in the seventh inning, to earn the 10-2 game one victory.

Marley Olivier started in the circle for the Lady Bears and took the loss. Marley pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing 7 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2. Sophia Tanner pitched in relief for the Lady Bears. Sophia pitched three and one-third innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. Chloe Bennett started in the circle for the Lady Bengals and earned the victory. She pitched seven innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 13.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 3. LSUE committed one error compared to 2 for Baton Rouge.

Lady Bears Game One Highlights 

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs 

Sarah Petite went 1 for 1 with 1 run

Jennifer Ipson went 1 for 2 with 1 BB

 

Game Two

The Lady Bears struggled to get their offense going and they could not control the high-powered offense of the Lady Bengals thus dropping game two 6-1.

The LSUE Lady Bengals would get on the board first with two runs, in the top of the first inning. The Lady Bears would respond with a run of their own, in the bottom of the first. Morgan Alleman would reach on an infield single, steal second, advance to third on Bengal's throwing error and score on a sac fly by Alara Taylor. In the second inning, the  Lady Bengals would add to their lead via a solo homer by L. Adam's; 3-1. The Lady Bengals would extend their lead, in the fourth inning, via a two-run homer to left field by B Taylor. After four innings, the Bengals led the Bears 5-1. LSUE would add an insurance run, in the sixth inning. After six innings, the Bengals led 6-1 over the Bears. The Lady Bengals would win game two 6-1.

Kelsie B Etheridge started in the circle for the Lady Bears. KB pitched seven innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3. E. Shepherd started in the circle for the Bengals. She pitched six innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 2. 

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 5 to 4. LSUE committed one error compared to two for Baton Rouge.

Lady Bears Game Two Highlights

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Alara Taylor had 1 RBI 

Ryen Lawrence went 2 for 3

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 2 with 1 BB

 

With the pair of victories, the LSUE Lady Bengals improve to 30-16 while the Baton Rouge Lady Bears fall to 18-26 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Thursday April 28 as they close out their home regular season schedule with a doubleheader against Jones College starting at 1 pm.
