Lady Bears drop a pair of games to Lamar Port Arthur

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Port Arthur Texas, this afternoon, to take on the Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks in a doubleheader at Martin Field. The Lady Bears and the Seahawks battled and fought in both games, but the Seahawks would sweep the Lady Bears in today's doubleheader. Seahawks win game one 4-2, in eight innings, and  game two 5-4.

Game one

The game was a back-and-forth contest between the Lady Bears and the Seahawks. The Seahawks would outhit the Lady Bears in the end to earn the 4-2 extra inning victory.

The Lady Bears would score first with a run, in the first inning. Alara Taylor would hit a double to centerfield and she would steal home to score the Lady Bear's first run of the ball game. The Seahawks would tie the game with a run, in the bottom of the second. After two innings, the game was tied at one. The Lady Bears would retake the lead with a run, in the third inning;2-1. Kristyn Lormand would reach by being hit by a pitch, she would steal second and score on an Alara Taylor single to right field. The Seahawks would tie the game at two with a run, in the fifth inning. At the end of regulation, the game was tied at two thus forcing extra innings. In the eighth inning, the Lady Bears would get runners on second and third, but they would be left stranded. The Seahawk's S. Trahan would hit a two-run homer to centerfield to walk off with the 4-2 game one victory.

Marley Olivier started in the circle for the Lady Bears. Marley pitched five innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 8. Kristyn Lormand pitched in relief for the Lady Bears. Kristyn took the loss for the Lady Bears. She pitched two and a third innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits. Cameron Niedenthal pitched a complete game for the victory. She pitched eight innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking it 6.

The Seahawks would outhit the Lady Bears 7 to 6. Neither team committed an error in the ball game.

Lady Bears Game One Highlights 

Kristyn Lormand went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 4

Alara Taylor went 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

 

Game Two

It was another back-and-forth game between the Lady Bears and the Seahawks. Game two was highlighted by the long ball which both teams combining for 5. The Seahawks would hold off a late Lady Bears rally to earn the 5-4 game two victory.

The Lady Bears would get on the board first via a solo homer to centerfield by lead off hitter Kristyn Lormand. The Seahawks would respond with a run, in the bottom of the first, to tie the game at one. The Seahawks would take the lead, in the third inning, via a two-run homer by S. Trahan, her second of the day. Also in the third inning, they would add to their lead with a solo homer by C. Niedenthal; 4-1. In the fourth inning, the Seahawks would again extend their lead via a solo homer by H. Collier; 5-1. The Lady Bears would scratch a run across, in the fifth inning, via a solo homer to centerfield by Adelyn Fisher. The Lady Bears would pull within a run when they would score two runs, in the sixth inning;5-4. Morgan Alleman would hit a single and score on a Jennifer Ipson infield ground out. Alara Taylor, who doubled to right field would score on a Kelsie B. Etheridge single. Outstanding pitching and defense by the Lady Bears would hold the Seahawks scoreless in the sixth inning giving the Lady Bears a chance to win the game in the seventh. The Lady Bears would get the tying run on the base paths, in the seventh inning, but a strikeout and double play by the Seahawks would end the game. Lamar Port Arthur wins game two 5-4.

Cameron Niedenthal started in the circle for the Seahawks and earned the victory. She pitched seven innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2. Kelsie B. Etheridge started in the circle for the Lady Bears and took the loss. KB pitched six innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2.

Lamar Port Arthur outhit Baton Rouge 7 to 6. Baton Rouge committed two errors compared to one for Lamar Port Arthur.

Lady Bears Game Two Highlights

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 4 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 homer

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Alara Taylor went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Jennifer Ipson had 1 RBI 

Kelsie B. Etheridge went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 homer 

Cierra Treigle went 1 for 2

 

With the pair of victories, the Seahawks improve to 12-19, while the Lady Bears fall to 16-22.

 

The Lady Bears will host the Dallas Christian Crusaders on Thursday April 14, 2022, at Traction. The doubleheader will start at 1 pm.
