Lady Bears Sweep Bishop State at home

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the Bishop State Wildcats concluded their four game home and home series, this afternoon, in the Capital City. The Lady Bears would sweep the Wildcats 12-3 and 5-4. The Lady Bears would sweep the season series with the Bishop State Wildcats.

Game One

The Lady Bears used the long ball to defeat the Wildcats 12 to 3, in game one of today's doubleheader.

Bishop State would get on the board first when they would scratch across a run, in the first inning. Baton Rouge would tie the game, in the bottom of the first, when Alara Taylor would hit a double to centerfield and score on a Jennifer Ipson single to right field. The Wildcats would retake the lead, in the second inning, with two runs:3-1. Again, the Lady Bears would respond but only score one, so they still trailed the Wildcats 3-2. Montana Smith would lead off the inning with a triple up the middle. Isabella Landeche would hit a bunt single to score Smith from third. The Lady Bears would take the lead, in the third inning, when they would score three runs. Two of those runs were via a two-run homer by Ryen Lawrence to centerfield. After three innings, the Lady Bears led 5-3 over the Wildcats. The Lady Bears would add two more runs to their lead, in the fourth inning, via a two run homer to left field by Alara Taylor. The Lady Bears would score five runs, in the bottom of the sixth inning, to seal the 12 to 3 run rule victory. The highlight of the sixth inning was a two run homer by Emma McCormick to left field to walk the Lady Bears off with the victory.

Marley Olivier started in the circle for the Lady Bears and earned the victory. Marley pitched a complete game allowing 3 runs on 11 hits while striking out 3.

Baton Rouge out hit Bishop State 16 to 11. Bishop State committed three errors compared to one for Baton Rouge. The Lady Bears hit three home runs in the ball game.

Game One Lady Bears Highlights 

Alara Taylor went 2 for 4 with 3 runs, 2 RBIs and 1 HR

Ryen Lawrence went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Emma McCormick went 1 for 1 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 HR

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 4 

Morgan Alleman went 3 for 4 with 3 runs

Jennifer Ipson went 3 for 4 with 1 run and 3 RBIs 

Montana Smith went 1 for 2 with1 run and 1 triple 

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 3

Isabella Landeche went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

Game Two

A solid pitching performance by Kelsie B. Etheridge and timely hitting by the Lady Bears lead them to a 5-4 game two victory.

Bishop State would get on the board first with a run in the first inning. Baton Rouge would respond with three runs, in the bottom of the first, to take a 3-1 lead. Kristyn Lormand would be hit by a pitch, Morgan Alleman would hit a double up the middle and Alara Taylor would be hit by a pitch to load the bases for the Lady Bears. Jennifer Ipson would follow with a double scoring two runs. Adelyn Fisher would ground out to the shortstop but Taylor would score on the play for the Lady Bears third run of the inning. Baton Rouge would scratch two more runs, in the fourth inning, to take a 5-1 lead over the wildcats. Cierra Treigle, who reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a Wildcat's error would steal home for the Lady Bears first run of the inning. Kristyn Lormand would hit a double driving in another run. Bishop State would not go quietly as they would score a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth, but it was not enough as they Lady Bears would hold on for the 5-4 game two victory.

Kelsie B. Etheridge started in the circle for the Lady Bears and earned the victory. KB pitched seven innings allowing 4 runs in 7 hits while striking out 1. Grace Lucius took the loss for the Wildcats. She pitched to five batters allowing 3 runs on 2 hits.

Both teams scattered seven hits in the ball game and both teams committed one error.

 

Game Two Lady Bears Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

Morgan Alleman went 2 for 2 with 1 run and 1BB

Jennifer Ipson went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs 

Emma McCormick went 1 for 3

Adelyn Fisher went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI

 

With the victories the Lady Bears improve to 13-15, while the Wildcats fall to 14-22 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Sunday March 27 as they travel to Pineville, Louisiana to take on the Louisiana Christian University JV team in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
