Lady Bears sweep Bishop State Wildcats in Mobile

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the Bishop State Wildcats opened a four-game series this afternoon at Bishop State. The Lady Bears would sweep the day with a 10-8 game one victory and a 2-0 game two victory.

Game One

The Lady Bears would jump out to an early lead, watch that lead disappear and rally back to earn the 10-8 game one victory over the Wildcats.

The Lady Bears would get on the board first, in the first inning, when they sent all 9 Lady Bears to the plate, and they would score three runs. Kristyn Lormand would get things started with a single to left field followed by back to back singles by Morgan Alleman and  Alara Taylor. Lormand would score the Lady Bears first run of the game on the Taylor single. Kelsie B. Etheridge would single to right field scoring Alleman. Montana Smith would follow with a single to left field scoring Taylor.  The Lady Bears would add a run to their lead, in the third inning, when Montana Smith would lead off with a bunt single and score on a Wildcats' error. Bishop State would get on the board, in the bottom of the third, but they still trailed, 4-2.  The Wildcats would tie the game, in the fourth, and take a two-run lead with four runs in the inning. After four innings, the Wildcats led 6-4. Baton Rouge would respond and score 6 runs, in the fifth inning, to retake the lead, 10-6.  The inning was highlighted by a lead off double by Jennifer Ispons,an Adelyn Fisher RBI single to right field, and an Alara Taylor RBI infield single. The Lady Bears also took advantage of some miscues on defense by the Wildcats and some inconsistent pitching. The Wildcats would not go away quietly as they would scratch two runs, in the sixth inning, but it was not enough as the Baton Rouge Lady Bears would defeat the Bishop State Wildcats 10-8 in game one of today's doubleheader.

Marley Olivier started in the circle for the Lady Bears and earned the victory. Marley pitched a complete game allowing 8 runs on 8 hits while striking out 6. Pruitt took the loss for the Wildcats. She pitched seven innings allowing 10 runs on 11 hits while striking out 4.

Baton Rouge outhit Bishop State 11 to 8. Baton Rouge committed one error compared to 4 for Bishop State.

Game One Lady Bears Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 5 with 2 runs

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 5 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Alara Taylor went 3 for 5 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Jennifer Ipson went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 2 BB

Kelsie B. Etheridge went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Montana Smith went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI

Isabella Landeche went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

 

Game Two:

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears would only score two runs, but it was enough as Kelsie B. Etheridge would shut the Wildcats down and pitch a complete game shutout.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run in the fourth inning. Jennifer Ipson would lead off the inning with an infield single. Ipson would be moved over to second when Montana Smith would reach on an error and advance to third on an Adelyn Fisher infield single. Ipson would be part of a double steal with Fisher and would score on the play for the Lady Bears first run of the game. The Lady Bears would scratch across another run, in the fifth inning, to take a 2-0 lead. Morgan Alleman would single, steal second, advance to third on a single by Adelyn Fisher and score on a Jennifer Ipson ground out. The Lady Bears defensive, as well as, a great pitching performance by Kelsie B. Etheridge helped the Lady Bears secure the 2-0 game two victory and the sweep of the Bishop State Wildcats.

Kelsie B. Etheridge pitched the Lady Bears to a complete game shutout victory.  KB pitched seven innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2. Glass took the loss for the Wildcats. She pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing 2 runs on 9 hits.

Baton Rouge outhit Bishop State 9 to 4. Baton Rouge committed one error while Bishop State committed two errors.

Game Two Lady Bears Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 4

Morgan Alleman went 2 for 4 with 1 run

Alara Taylor went 2 for 3

Jennifer Ipson went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 3

Ryen Lawrence went 2 for 3

 

With the victories the Baton Rouge Lady Bears improve to 11-15, while Bishop State falls to 14-20 on the season.

The Lady Bears will return to action this Wednesday March 23, 2022, as they host the Bishop State Wildcats at Traction. Doubleheader will start at 1 pm.
