Lady Bears Softball split with Louisiana Christian University

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the Louisiana Christian University Wildcats met for the first time in program history on the diamond, this afternoon at Lady Jaguar Field on the campus of Southern University. The Lady Bears would win game one 8-0 in five innings. The Wildcats would win game two 7-5.

Game One:

Baton Rouge Lady Bears used a solid performance on defense, at the plate and in the circle to earn the 8-0 five inning run rule victory.

The Lady Bears would get on the board first with four runs, in the first inning, to take the early lead. Kristyn Lormand would lead off the inning with a solo home run to centerfield for the Lady Bears first run of the game. The Lady Bears would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Wildcats for their second run when they would get a bases loaded walk. Montana Smith would hit a sac fly scoring another run and finally, Emma McCormick would score on a pass ball. The Lady Bears brought all 9 batters to the plate in the first inning.

The Lady Bears would scratch across a run, in the second inning,  when Jennifer Ipson would hit a triple to right field, scoring Alara Taylor, who reached on a walk. In the third inning, Alara Taylor would hit an infield bloop single scoring two runs. Taylor would get caught in a run-down, but the Lady Bears would score another run before she was tagged out for the third run of the inning. After three innings, the Lady Bears lead the Wildcats 8-0. Marley Olivier and the Lady Bears would shut down the Wildcats in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the 8-0 five inning run rule game one victory.

Marley Olivier started in the circle and earned the victory for the Lady Bears. Marley pitched five innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 4. Addison Greak took the loss for the Wildcats. She pitched four innings allowing 8 runs on 7 hits while striking out 1.

Baton Rouge outhit Louisiana Christian University 7 to 2. Neither team committed an error in the ball game.

Game One Lady Bears Highlights

Kristyn Lormand went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 1HR

Alara Taylor went 1 for 2 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 1 BB

Jennifer Ipson went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

Adelyn Fisher had 1 RBI 

Montana Smith had 2 RBIs 

Isabella Landeche went 1 for 1 with 1 BB

Cierra Treigle went 1 for 1 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

 

Game Two:

The Louisiana Christian University Wildcats would use the long ball to drive their offense and seal the 7-5 game two victory.

The Lady Bears would get on the board first when Jennifer Ipson would hit into a fielder's choice but Morgan Alleman would score from third. After one inning, the Lady Bears led 1-0. The Wildcats would tie the game with a solo homer, in the second inning. In the top of the fourth, the Wildcats would retake the lead with a two-run homer to left field. The Lady Bears would respond with two runs, in the bottom of the fourth, to tie the game at 3.  Alara Taylor would hit a 2RBI double to right field. The Wildcats would retake the lead, in the top of the six, with two runs, one run via a solo homer to centerfield. The Wildcats would add to their lead with two runs in the seventh inning via a homer. The Lady Bears would not go down without a fight. Adelyn Fisher would hit a two-run homer, in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Louisiana Christian Wildcats would win game two 7-5.

Kelsie B. Etheridge started in the circle for the Lady Bears and she took the loss. KB pitched seven innings allowing 7 runs on 9 hits while striking out 1.

Louisiana Christian University outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 8. The Wildcats committed one error in the ball game. The Wildcats hit 4 homers compared to 1 for Baton Rouge.

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 4 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 HR

Alara Taylor went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs

Emma McCormick went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 2BB

Cierra Treigle went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Kylie went 2 for 3 with 1 run

 

With split the Lady Bears improve to 9-13 on the season.

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Friday March 18 as they travel down I-10 to Eunice, Louisiana to take on the LSUE Lady Bengals in a doubleheader at Lady Bengal Park starting at 4 pm.
