Lady Bears split with Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks met this afternoon to start a four-game home and home series. The Lady Bears would take an early lead in game one but would have to rally for the 6 to 5 comeback victory. In game two, the Lady Bears struggled to get anything going offensively and they couldn't control the high-powered offense of the Seahawks as they fall 9-3.

Game One

The Lady Bears would jump out the gates early with four runs, in the first inning, but would rally, in the sixth inning, to secure the 6-5 game one victory over the Seahawks.

The Lady Bears would take the early lead with four runs in the first inning. Jennifer Ipson would hit a 2 RBI triple to centerfield to start the scoring for the Lady Bears. Ryen Lawrence would follow with a single up the middle scoring Ipson. Montana Smith would fly out in foul territory but Lawrence would tag up and score on the play for the Lady Bears fourth run of the frame. In the third inning, the Seahawks would get on the board with a two-run homer by M. Louvier.  C. Niedenthal would lead off the fourth inning for the Seahawks with a solo home to left field to bring them within one;4-3. Lamar Port Arthur would take the lead with two runs, in the fifth inning:5-4.  The Lady Bears would tie the game with a solo homer by Montana Smith to left field, in the sixth inning. They would take the lead when Kristyn Lormand would double to left field scoring Emma McCormick, who reached on a single.  After six innings, the Lady Bears led 6-5. The Seahawks would get some traffic on the base paths, in the seventh inning, but Marley Olivier would shut down the threat to preserve the 6-5 game one victory.

Marley Olivier started in the circle for the Lady Bears and earned the victory. Marley pitched seven innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2. Niedenthal started in the circle for the Seahawks and took the loss. She pitched six innings allowing 6 runs on 9 hits while striking out 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Lamar Port Arthur 9 to 5. Baton Rouge committed 3 errors in the ballgame.

Lady Bears Game One Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

Alara Taylor went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Jennifer Ipson went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs 

Ryen Lawrence went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

Montana Smith went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 homerun 

Emma McCormick went 1 for 1 with 1 run

 

Game Two:

The Lady Bengals struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Seahawks losing game two 9-3. 

The Seahawks would get on the board first via a two-run homer by C. Niedenthal, in the first inning. The Seahawks would add a run to their lead in the second inning. C. Niedenthal would strike again, in the third inning, with a solo homer to left field. The Lady Bears would get on the board with three runs, in the fourth inning, to close the gap to 4-3. Morgan Alleman and Alara Taylor would lead off the inning with back-to-back walks. Emma McCormick would double to left field driving in Alleman and Taylor.  Adelyn Fisher would then single up the middle scoring McCormick for the Lady Bears third run of the frame.  In the fifth, the Seahawks would increase their lead when C. Niedenthal would hit her third homer of the game. After five innings, the Seahawks led 6-3.  The Seahawks would cap off the game two victory with a two-run homer by S. Trahan in the seventh. The Seahawks defeat the Lady Bears 9-3.

Kaitlyn Samarripa earned the victory for the Seahawks. She pitched seven innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8. Kelsie B. Etheridge took the loss for the Lady Bears. KB pitched seven innings allowing 9 runs on 10 hits while striking out 4.

Lamar Port Arthur outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 3. The Seahawks committed one error compared to 2 for the Lady Bears in the ballgame.

Game Two Lady Bears Highlights:

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 2 with 1 run

Emma McCormick went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs 

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

 

With the split the Baton Rouge Lady Bears improve to 8-12 and the Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks improve to 7-8 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Sunday March 13 when they take on the Louisiana Christian Wildcats at Southern University Lady Jaguar Field in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
