Lady Bears drop a pair to  #5 Co-Lin at Southern University

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the Copiah Lincoln Lady Wolves met this afternoon at Southern University Lady Jaguar Field for their second meeting of the season. Co-Lin won the first two games of the series, last month in Wesson. Today's games were like the first meeting with Co-Lin winning both game. The Lady Wolves won game one 14-1 and game two 11-3, both in five inning run rule.

Game one

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears struggled defensively to contain the high-powered offensive attack of the Co-Lin Lady Wolves as they drop game one 14-1, in five innings.

Co-Lin would get on the board first with three runs, in the first inning. The Lady Bears would score their only run of the game, in the bottom of the first, via a solo homer to left field by Montana Smith. Co-Lin would score 11 runs over the last three innings to secure the 14-1 five inning victory over Baton Rouge.  The Lady Bears struggled to adjust at the plate only scattering four hits.

Cera Blanchard earned the victory for the Lady Wolves. She pitched four innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 4. Marley Olivier started in the circle for the Lady Bears and took the loss. Marley pitched three innings allowing 6 runs on 5 hits while striking out 1. Sophia Tanner pitched two innings in relief for the Lady Bears.

Co-Lin outhit Baton Rouge 13 to 4. Baton Rouge committed three errors compared to one for Co-Lin.

Game one Lady Bears Highlights 

Montana Smith went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 homerun

Zoe Nettles went 1 for 1

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 1

Cierra Treigle went 1 for 2

 

Game Two

Baton Rouge Lady Bears could not overcome an early deficit, thus dropping game two of today's doubleheader to the Co-Lin Lady Wolves 11 to 3, in five innings.

Co-Lin would get on the board first with three runs, in the first inning, for the early lead.  They would add two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. Baton Rouge bats would come alive, in the fourth inning, when they would plate three runs. Montana Smith would lead off with a walk and score on an RBI double by Alara Taylor for the Lady Bears first run of the game. Ryen Lawrence would follow with a double to right field scoring Taylor. Emma McCormick would pinch hit and hit a single driving in Lawrence. Co-Lin would respond and add three more runs, in the fifth inning, to secure the 11-3 victory.

Belle West earned the victory for the Lady Wolves. She pitched five innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4. Kelsie B. Etheridge started for the Lady Bears and took the loss. KB pitched five innings allowing 11 runs on 13 hits while striking out 1.

Co-Lin outhit Baton Rouge 13 to 7 with Baton Rouge committing one error in the ball game.

Lady Bears Game Two Highlights

Alara Taylor went 2 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 double

Ryen Lawrence went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 double

Jennifer Ipson went 2 for 3

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 3

Emma McCormick went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI

 

With the sweep Copiah Lincoln improves to 12-2, while Baton Rouge falls to 7-11 on the season.

 The Lady Bears will continue their home stand on Tuesday March 8 with a  doubleheader with the Pearl River Lady Wildcats. First pitch is at 1 pm at Traction.
