Lady Bears sweep Lady Trojans

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears squared off today against the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans at Traction. The Lady Bears sweep the Lady Trojans, 7-0 and 5-1.

Game One:

An outstanding pitching performance by Lady Bears pitcher Marley Olivier and some timely hitting by the Lady Bears lead them to a 7-0 game one victory.

The Lady Bears would get on the board first with two runs, in the second, to take the early lead. Kelsie B. Etheridge would lead off with a single up the middle. Jennifer Ipson would ground out to the second baseman, but Etheridge would score on the play for the ladies first run of the ball game. Isabella Landeche would hit a single to right field scoring, Montana Smith, who reached on a walk.  The Lady Bears would add two more runs, in the third, on some defensive miscues by the Lady Trojans. After three innings, the Lady Bears led 4-0.  The Lady Bears would strike again, in the fifth, when they would add a run to their lead;5-0. Kelsie B. Etheridge would single to centerfield driving in Kristyn Lormand, who reached by being hit by a pitch. The Lady Bears would add two more insurance runs in the sixth inning. Jennifer Ipson and Isabella Landeche would hit back-to-back singles.  Brylie Fowler would pinch run for Ipson and would score on the Landeche single. Kristyn Lormand would reach on an infield error scoring Landeche.  In the seventh, the Lady Bears would flash a bit of leather when a pop fly tips off Marley's glove but Morgan Alleman was there with the diving catch and throw to get the runner out at first. The Lady Bear would get an infield ground out to end the game.

Marley Olivier pitched a complete seven inning game for the Lady Bears. Marley earned the victory. She allows 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 9. 

 Baton Rouge out hit Mississippi Delta 6 to 2. Mississippi Delta committed 5 errors in the ballgame.

Game One Lady Bears Highlights:

Alara Taylor went 1 for 4 with 1 run

Kelsie B. Etheridge went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Jennifer Ipson went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Isabella Landeche went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

 

Game Two:

Baton Rouge Lady Bears would jump out to an early lead and rally late for the 5-1 game two victory over the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans.

The Lady Bears would get on the board in the first inning via a solo homer to left field by Alara Taylor. The Lady Bears led 1-0 after one inning.  The next three innings was a pitching duel as neither team could scratch across any runs or adjust  to score runs. The Lady Trojans would tie the game, in the top of the fifth, with one run. The Lady Bears would respond and retake the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth;2-1. Ryen Lawrence would lead off with a single to right field. Isabella Landeche laid down a great bunt to move Lawrence over to second. Adelyn Fisher would reach on an error, and it would score Lawrence. After five innings, the Lady Bears led 2-1. The Lady Bears would break through, in the sixth inning, with three runs to extend their lead. Alara Taylor would lead off and reach on an infield error by the Lady Trojans. Kelsie B. Etheridge would draw a walk. Ryen Lawrence would hit a double up the middle to score Taylor and Etheridge. Ryen Lawrence would steal second and score on a throwing error by the Lady Trojans. After six innings, the Lady Bears led 5-1.  The Lady Trojans would not go down quietly, in the seventh.  They would hit back-to-back to back singles to load the bases. The Lady Bears would flash some more leather as they would get a fly out, then a ground out and they would pick off the runner at third trying to advance to end the Lady Trojans threat and the game.  The Lady Bears would come alive late to earn the 5-1 game two victory.

Kelsie B. Etheridge started the game for the Lady Bears, and she pitched them to a complete game victory. KB pitched 7 innings allowing 1 run on 8 hits while striking out 3.

Mississippi Delta outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 5. Mississippi Delta committed 3 errors compared to 1 for the Lady Bears.

 

Game Two Lady Bears Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 3

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 3

Alara Taylor went 1 for 3 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Ryen Lawrence went 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs

 

With the pair of victories, Baton Rouge improves to 6-8, while Mississippi Delta falls to 1-9 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Thursday February 24 as they travel to Bay Minette, Alabama to take on the Coastal Alabama South Sun Chiefs in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
