Lady Bears go 2-0 on Day 1 of Sun Chief Classic

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears would score at least a run in five of the seven innings, this afternoon, to secure the 9 to 4 victory. Kelsie B. Etheridge had a solid pitching performance for the Lady Bears holding the Lady Wildcats to only four runs while striking out one and only walking one. For the second straight game the Lady Bears were seeing the ball well as they would scatter 10 hits around the ball park.

Baton Rouge Lady Bears would put up a four spot, in the first inning, to take a 4-0 lead over the Lady Wildcats. Morgan Alleman would hit a double, then Alara Taylor and Jennifer's Ipson would walk to load the bases. Emma McCormick would walk to score Taylor and the ladies first run of the game. Adelyn Fisher would follow with a single to left field driving in Ipson. Cierra Treigle would reach on an error and her hit would drive in Landeche and McCormick. Bishop State would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the first, but they still trailed the Lady Bears 4-1. The Lady Bears would add a run to their lead, in the fourth inning, when Montana Smith would hit a double up the middle and score on a Kristyn Lormand single up the middle. The Lady Wildcats would tact on two more runs, in the bottom of the fourth, but they still trailed the Lady Bears 5-2. The Lady Bears would scratch across a run, in the fifth inning, when Jennifer Ipson would hit an infield double, followed by a single by Isabella Landeche and Emma McCormick would hit a sac fly scoring Ipson. Bishop State would not go away as they would add another run, in the bottom of the fifth. After five innings, the Lady Bears led 6-4.  The Lady Bears would add one run, in the sixth, and two runs, in the seventh, to secure the 9 to 4 victory, this afternoon in the Sun Chief Classic.

Kelsie B. Etheridge earned the victory for the Lady Bears. KB pitched seven innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 1.

Baton Rouge outhit Bishop State 10 to 8. Baton Rouge committed 2 errors compared to 1 for Bishop State.

Lady Bears Game Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Jennifer Ipson went 1 for 2 with 3 Runs and 2 BB

Isabella Landeche went 2 for 4 with 1 run

Emma McCormick had 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 1 BB

Adelyn Fisher went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs 

Cierra Treigle went 1 for 4 with 1 run 

Montana Smith went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

 

With the victory the Lady Bears improve to 2-8, while the Lady Wildcats fall to 5-7 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will return to action tomorrow Saturday February 19 in day two of the Sun Chief Classic. They will play Snead State at 9 am and John A Logan College at 1:30 pm at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex
