Lady Bears fight till the end but drop a pair at Southwest Mississippi

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Summit, Mississippi to take on the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears, this afternoon in a doubleheader.  Southwest Mississippi would win game one 9 to 2.  Baton Rouge would fight back, in game two, but fall, in the seventh inning, 3 to 2.

Game One:

Southwest Mississippi would use the long ball to capture the 9 to 2 victory over Baton Rouge, in game one, of today's doubleheader.

In the first inning, the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears would load the bases then A. Eirls would hit a grand slam to centerfield to take a 4-0 lead. In the second inning, Baton Rouge would scratch across a run when Adelyn Fisher would single to left field and score on a Jennifer Ipson double up the middle.  The host Lady Bears would tact on three more runs when K. Stampley would double to centerfield driving in 3 runs. After two innings, the host Lady Bears lead 7-1. Southwest would add a run to their lead in the fourth;8-1. In the sixth inning, Baton Rouge would put runners on the corners, and they would score a run on a pass ball for their second run of the ballgame. A. Eirls would lead off, the sixth inning, with a solo homer, her second of the game to increase Southwest Mississippi led to 9-2.  Southwest would defeat Baton Rouge 9 to 2, in game one.

Jensen Gremillion earned the victory for Southwest Mississippi.  She pitched five innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 6. Kristyn Lormand earned the loss for Baton Rouge. Kristyn pitched six innings allowing 9 runs on 14 hits while striking out 2.

Southwest Mississippi out hit Baton Rouge 14 to 5. Baton Rouge committed 2 errors compared to Southwest Mississippi 1 in the ball game.

Game One Lady Bears Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went1 for 4

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 3

Ryen Lawrence had 1 run

Adelyn Fisher went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1BB

Jennifer Ipson went 1 for 3 with 1RBI

 

Game Two:

Baton Rouge Lady Bears let the nightcap slip away, in the bottom of the seventh ,as the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears would score the winning run on a squeeze play for the 3 to 2 victory.

Southwest Mississippi would score first,in the bottom of the first, to take a 1-0 lead.  Baton Rouge would tie the game, in the fourth, with a run. Ryen Lawrence would lead off and be hit by a pitch. Isabella Landeche would reach on an infield error and Lawrence would advantage to third on the same play. Adelyn Fisher would hit an infield single scoring Lawrence. The Bears would take the lead, in the sixth inning, when Adelyn Fisher would hit a double up the middle scoring Landeche would reached on an error. Southwest Mississippi would quickly tie the game, in the bottom of the sixth, with a solo homer by A. Eirls. Southwest would lead off the seventh inning with a double by M. Lewis.  She was moved over by a sacrifice bunt by H. Picazp. Lewis would score on a squeeze play to give Southwest Mississippi the 3-2 game two victory.

Madi Smith started on the mound for the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears.  She pitched six innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. Jensen Gremillion threw one inning in relief for Southwest. Marley Olivier took the loss for the Bears. Marley pitched six and a third innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6.

 

Game Two Lady Bears Highlights:

Kristyn Lormand went 1 for 4

Morgan Alleman went 1 for 3

Ryen Lawrence scored 1 run

Isabella Landeche went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Adelyn Fisher went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs

 

With the pair of victories, the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears improve to 4-0, while the Baton Rouge Bears fall to 0-8 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will return to action this Friday February 18 and Saturday 19 as they take part in the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores.  The ladies will open the Classic with a 1:30 game against Shelton State.
