Lady Bears lose to to #7 Jones College to end season

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears squared off on the diamond, this afternoon, in a pair of games versus #7 Jones College Bobcats to conclude their 2021 regular season. Jones College Bobcats swept the Lady Bears, in today's doubleheader, 8-0 and 12-2.

Game One:

The Lady Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Jones College Bobcats and watched the game slip away early as the Bobcats would earn an 8-0, five inning run rule victory.  Jones would get on the board first, in the first inning, via a two-run homer by L. Lindsey to take an early advantage, in which, they would not relinquish.  In the bottom of the third, Jones would extend their lead via a two run homer by M. Wynne. After three innings, the Bobcats led 4 to 0. In the fourth inning, the Bobcats would take advantage of some Lady Bears' defensive miscues to score four more runs to take an 8-0 lead into the fifth inning. The Lady Bears would struggle all game trying to get anything going on the offensive end.  Jones College defeats Baton Rouge 8 to 0, in a five-inning run rule game one victory.

Nia Luckett earned the victory for the Bobcats. She pitched four innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out six. Kelsie Bell Etheridge earned the loss for the Lady Bears. KB pitched four innings allowing 8 runs on 7 hits.

Jones College outhit Baton Rouge 7 to 1. Baton Rouge was credited with 2 errors in the ball game.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Brooke Romano went 1 for 2.

Kylie Lormand and Alyson Pourciau each had 1 BB.

 

Game Two:

For the second straight game the Lady Bears could not match Jones College Bobcats offensive fire powerr as they would fall, in game two, 12 to 2, in a five-inning run rule. Both teams would combine to hit six homers in the game with Jones hitting 4 and Baton Rouge hitting 2.

Jones would strike first and score two runs, in the first inning, to take the early lead over the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears would scratch across a run, in the second, to close the gap to 2-1 via a Frashaylon Angelle solo homer to centerfield.  Jones would respond with a homer of their own,in the bottom of the second. T. Cole would hit a two-run homer to centerfield to increase their lead to 4-1. In the third inning, the Bobcats would extend their lead via a three-run homer by B. Amond to centerfield. Brooke Romano would lead off the fourth inning for the Lady Bears with a solo homer to center field.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats would score 4 more runs, three of those runs off a T. Saunders homer to left field.  After four innings, Jones led 12 to 2.  The Lady Bears would go down in order, in the fifth inning, thus securing the 12 to 2 Jones College game two five inning run rule victory.

Eight of the twelve Jones College runs were from four home runs.  Both Lady Bears runs were from two solo home runs.

Sterling James earned the victory for the Bobcats. She pitched four innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 3. Saylor Young took the loss for the Lady Bears. Saylor pitched three innings allowing 10 runs on 8 hits. Leanne Lain pitched one inning in relief for the Lady Bears.

Jones College outhit Baton Rouge 11 to 3.  Baton Rouge was credited with 4 errors and Jones College had 1 in the ball game.

 

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Brooke Romano went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 HR.

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 2 with 1 Run, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Claire Blanchard went 1 for 1.

 

With the pair of victories Jones College improves to 35-7, while the Baton Rouge Lady Bears fall to 7-27.

 

This will wrap up the 2020-2021 Lady Bears Softball Season. The Ladies finished the season with a 7-27 record.  Three student athletes have signed scholarship to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year universities. Multiple student athletes will graduate this May from BRCC.
