Baton Rouge Lady Bears attempt for a sweep of the Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks falls short as the Seahawks win game two in extra innings 7 to 6. The Lady Bears won game one 9 to 4 behind a solid pitching performance by Kelsie Bell Etheridge and a three RBI day by Claire Blanchard.

 

 Game one: 

Baton Rouge Lady Bears bats came alive, in game one, as they would pound out 14 hits and score 9 runs to earn the 9 to 4 victory over the Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks.

The Seahawks would get on the board first with two runs, in the first inning, to take the early lead. The Lady Bears would tie the game, in the second inning, with two runs. Kelsie Bell Etheridge would lead off with an infield single and score on a Claire Blanchard double to right field for the ladies first run of the game. Sarah Petite would trade places with Claire with a double of her own to right field. After two innings, the game was tied at two apiece. Baton Rouge would take the lead with two runs, in the third inning:5 to 2. Kelsie Bell Etheridge would hit another infield single and Montana Smith would follow with a double to left field. Both would score when Claire Blanchard would triple to right field clearing the bases. Kylie Lormand would follow Blanchard with a double to left field scoring Blanchard from third. The Lady Bears would tact on another run, in the fourth, when Brooke Romano would single scoring Pourciau who reached on a single. After four, the Lady Bears led 6 to 2. Lamar Port Arthur would score two runs, in the fifth inning, to inch closer: 6 to 4. The Lady Bears bats would come alive again, in the sixth inning, as they would score 3 runs. Sarah Petite and Alyson Pourciau would hit back to back single to lead off the inning, and Kaitley Fisher would walk to load the bases. Brooke Duhon would hit into a fielder's choice scoring Petite then Brooke Romano would double up the middle scoring Duhon and Alyson Pourciau would score on same play by an error on the Seahawks error.  After six innings, the Lady Bears led 9 to 4. KB would shut the door on the Seahawks going three up and three down, in the seventh, to seal the Lady Bears 9 to 4 game one victory.

 

Kelsie Bell Etheridge earned the victory for the Lady Bears. KB pitched a complete game allowing 4 runs on 9 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. Kayci Spittler took the loss for Lamar Port Arthur. She pitched six innings allowing 9 runs on 14 hits while striking out 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Lamar Port Arthur 14 to 9. Both teams were credited with two errors in the ballgame.

 

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Brooke Duhon had 1 RBI and 1 Run.

Brooke Romano went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIS. 

Kelsie Bell Etheridge went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs.

Montana Smith went 1 for 2 with 1 run.

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 1.

Claire Blanchard went 2 for 2 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs.

Kylie Lormand went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. 

Sarah Petite went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Alyson Pourciau went 3 for 3 with 2 runs.

 

Game two:

The Lady Bears comeback falls short as the Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks scores a run-in extra innings to win game two 7 to 6.

Lamar Port Arthur would get on the board first with a run, in the first inning.  The Lady Bears would respond and tie the game at one, in the bottom of the first. Kaitley Fisher would lead off with a double to right field and she would score on a wild pitch for the ladies first run of the ball game.  Baton Rouge would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Seahawks with back-to-back walks, and they would score on a pass ball. After two innings, the Lady Bears led 2-1. Lamar Port Arthur would retake the lead with three runs, in the third inning: 4-2.  The Lady Bears would scratch closer with a run, in the fourth inning; 4-3. The Lady Bears would get back-to-back to back walks by Lain, Pourciau, and Fisher to load the bases. Brooke Duhon would hit into a fielder's choice scoring a run. The Seahawks would extend their lead, in the fifth inning, via a lead off solo homer by S. Trahan.  After five innings, the Seahawks led 5 to 3. Lamar Port Arthur would extend their lead again, in the sixth, with a run; 6 to 3.  The Lady Bears would respond, in the bottom of the sixth, with two runs off a Brooke Romano homer to left field.  After six, the Lady Bears trailed 6 to 4.  The Lady Bears would strike again, in the bottom of the seventh, when Saylor Young would hit a pinch hit two run homer to deep centerfield to tie the ball game at six. The Seahawks would take advantage of a fielding error by the Lady Bears to scratch across a run, in the eighth inning, to retake the lead.  The Lady Bears would put runners on, in the eighth, but were unable to score a run thus falling 7 to 6 to the Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks, in game two of today's twin bill.

 

Samarripa earned victory for Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks. She pitched eight innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out 1. Leanne Lain started on the mound for the Lady Bears and she pitched seven innings allowing 6 runs on 10 hits.  Saylor Young took the loss for the Lady Bears. She pitched one inning in relief allowing 1 run on 1 hit.

 

Lamar Port Arthur out hit Baton Rouge 10 to 7. Baton Rouge was credited with 4 errors while Lamar had 2 in the ball game.

 

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 BB.

Brooke Duhon went 1 for 5 with 1 RBI.

Brooke Romano went 1 for 2 with 1 Run, 1RBI, 3 BB and 1 HR.

Kourtni Jagneaux at 1 BB

Kylie Lormand went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs and 2 BB.

Saylor Young went 1 for 1 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 HR.

 

With the split the Lady Bears improve to 7-25 and Lamar Port Arthur improves to 14-24 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will play their final home game of the season this Friday April 30 as they take on the Co-Lin Lady Wolves in a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
