Lady Bears Softball falls at LSUE

LSUE would use the long ball to propel them to the doubleheader sweep of the Baton Rouge Lady Bears. The Lady Bengals hit five homers in the twin bill. LSUE would win game one 12-1 and game two 10-2.

 

Game one

Baton Rouge Lady Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the LSUE Lady Bengals this afternoon at Lady Bengals softball field. LSUE would defeat the Baton Rouge Lady Bears 12 to 1, in a five-inning run rule.

LSUE would get on the board first, in the first inning, with four runs to take the early lead. The Lady Bengals would add another run ,in the second inning, to increase their lead to 5-0.  LSUE would explode for 7 runs, in the fourth inning. Six of those runs came off homers by S. Simon and K. Fontenot. After four innings, LSUE led 12-0.  The Lady Bears would continue to fight and scratch across a run, in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to defeat the Lady Bengals.  In the fifth inning, Claire Blanchard would walk, Kylie Lormand would single and Jodi Broussard would single up the middle scoring Blanchard for the Lady Bears first and only run of the ball game. 

Simon earned the victory for the Lady Bengals. She pitched three innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 1. Kelsie Bell Etheridge took the loss for the Lady Bears. KB pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 11 runs on 8 hits while striking out 1. Jodi Broussard pitched in relief for the Lady Bears.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 3. Eunice was credited with one error in the ball game.  The Lady Bengals hit two homeruns in the game.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Kelsie Bell Etheridge went 1 for 2.

Kylie Lormand went 1 for 2.

Jodi Broussard went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. 

 

Game two:

Baton Rouge Lady Bears were unable to match the high-powered offense of the LSUE Lady Bengals, in game two, thus falling 10-2, in a five-inning run rule.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run, in the second inning. Sarah Petite would lead off and reach base by being hit by a pitch. Leanne Alain would follow with a beautiful sac bunt moving Petite to second. Kylie Lormand would then double to left field scoring Petite for the ladies first run of the ball game.  The Lady Bengals would respond with four runs in the second inning to take a 4 to 1 lead.  Baton Rouge would continue to fight, and they would scratch across a run, in the third inning. Montana Smith would lead off the inning by reaching on a Lady Bengal error. Sarah Petite would single to left field driving in Smith.  LSUE would score four runs, in the third inning, off a grand slam by A Roach to take an 8 to 2 lead over the Lady Bears. Throughout the game, the Lady Bears would get runners on base but were unable to get that timely hit to drive them home. LSUE would seal the victory, in the fifth inning, with a two-run homer by A. Roach. LSUE would defeat the Lady Bears 10 to 2.

Raegan Pilgreen earned the victory for the LSUE Lady Bengals. She pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits. Leanne Lain took the loss for the Lady Bears. Leanne pitched two and a third innings allowing 8 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. Saylor Young pitched in relief for the Lady Bears.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 6 to 3. LSUE was credited with 3 errors while Baton Rouge had 2 errors in the ballgame.

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Montana Smith went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Sarah Petite went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Kylie Lormand went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

 

With the pair of victories LSUE Lady Bengals improve to 31-19, while the Baton Rouge Lady Bears falls to 6-22.

 

The Lady Bears will be busy next week as they will play home games on Monday April 26 vs Bossier Parish, Wednesday April 28 vs Lamar Port Arthur and Friday April 30 versus Co-Lin.  All games will be played at Traction and will start at 1 pm, except for Co-Lin which will start at 12.
