Lady Bears softball splits with Lamar Port Arthur

Baton Rouge Lady Bears split today's doubleheader with the Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks down in Port Arthur, Texas.  Lady Bears win game one 7 to 3. Lamar Port Arthur wins game two 10 to 0, in five innings.

Game 1:

A big sixth inning propels the Lady Bears to a 7 to 4 game one victory this afternoon at Martin Field in Port Arthur, Texas

The Lady Bears would get the bats going early as they would score two runs, in the first inning, to take an early lead. Kaitley Fisher would lead off with a walk, then steal second, advance to third on a pass ball and score on a Montana Smith sac fly to centerfield. Alyson Pourciau would score the second Lady Bears run on a ground out by Kelsie Bell Etheridge. Kelsie Bell Etheridge had another solid pitching performance on the mound for the Lady Bears. For the most part, KB held the Seahawks in check. The Seahawks would tie the game at 2 with 2 runs, in the third innings.  The Lady Bears would retake the lead, 3-2 with a run in the fifth inning. Kaitley Fisher would hit a triple to centerfield scoring Duhon who reached on a bunt single. The bats would really come alive for the Lady Bears, in the sixth inning, when they would score 4 runs to take a 7 to 2 lead. The Lady Bears would load the bases with back-to-back singles by Sarah Petite and Claire Blanchard and a walk by Kellsie Clement.  The bases would clear on a triple to centerfield by Brooke Duhon. Brooke Duhon would then score on a pass ball.  Lamar Port Arthur would continue to fight and score another run in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Lady Bears would take game one 7 to 3.

 Kelsie Bell Etheridge earns the victory for the Lady Bears. KB pitched seven innings allowing 4 runs on 10 hits while striking out 4. Kayci Spittler took the loss for Lamar Port Arthur. She pitched five and a third innings allowing 7 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3.

Lamar Port Arthur outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 7. Both teams did not commit an error in the ball game.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Montana Smith had 1 RBI.

Kelsie Bell Etheridge went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Sarah Petite went 2 for 4 with 1 Run.

Claire Blanchard went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Brooke Duhon went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs and 3 RBIs.

 

Game 2:

Lady Bears struggled to get their offensive going while, the Seahawks were firing on all cylinders as they would run rule the Lady Bears 10 to 0, in five innings. Lamar Port Arthur would score 9 runs off of three homers.

Lamar Port Arthur would get on the board first via a two-run homer by C Salazar, in the first inning.  In the second inning, the Seahawks would strike again with another long ball, this time a 3-run homer by S. Trahan. After two innings, the Seahawks led 5 to 0.  The Seahawks would add another run in the third inning to take a 6 to 0 lead.  Lamar Port Arthur and the long ball would strike again, in the fourth inning, this time a grand slam by H. Collier to take a 10 to 0 lead.

The Lady Bears struggled all game to get anything going on the offensive end. The Seahawks would win game two 10 to 0 in a five-inning run rule.

Cameron Niedenthal earned the shutout victory for the Seahawks. She pitched five innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 8. Leanne Lain took the loss for Baton Rouge. Leanne pitched four innings allowing 10 runs on 13 hits while striking out 1.

Lamar Port Arthur outhit Baton Rouge 13 to 2. Each team committed one error in the ball game.

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 2.

Kylie Lormand went 1 for 2.

 

With the split, the Lady Bears improve to 5-16 and the Seahawks improve to 11-15 on the season.

 

Next up for the Lady Bears will be a road trip to Ellisville, Mississippi to take on Jones College in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
