Softball: Goodman, MS
Holmes Lady Bulldogs sweep the Baton Rouge Lady Bears in a pair of games this afternoon in Goodman, Mississippi. Holmes wins game one 11 to 6 and game two 4 to 1.
Game 1:
Lady Bears jump out to an early lead, but defensive miscues leads them to the 11 to 6 loss in game one of today's doubleheader with Holmes Lady Bulldogs.
Lady Bears would put up a four spot, in the third inning, to take the early lead. Brooke Romano would double to left field scoring Duhon, who reached on an error for the ladies first run of the ball game. Montana Smith would reach on error by the left fielder, but two runs would score on the play. Finally, Kelsie Bell Etheridge would single to centerfield driving in the Lady Bears' fourth run of the inning. Holmes would respond with four runs, in the bottom of the third, to tie the game at 4. Holmes would put up another four spot, in the fourth inning, to take an 8 to 4 lead. The Lady Bulldogs would add another run in the fifth;9-4. The Lady Bears would scratch two runs across, in the sixth inning, to close the gap to 9-6. Brooke Duhon would double to right field and score on a Kaitley Fisher double to right field for one run. Kylie Lormand would reach on an error scoring Fisher for the second run in the frame. Holmes would tact on two more runs, in the sixth inning, to take an 11 to 6 lead in which they would not relinquish.
Travis earned the victory for the Lady Bulldogs. She pitched seven innings allowing 6 runs on 10 hits while striking out 3. Leanne Lain took the loss for the Lady Bears. Leanne pitched six innings allowing 11 runs on 13 hits while striking out 1.
Holmes out hit Baton Rouge 13 to 10. The Lady Bears were credited with 5 errors in the ball game compared to 2 by the Lady Bulldogs.
Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:
Kaitley Fisher went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI.
Brooke Romano we g 3 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI
Montana Smith went 1 for 4 with 1 Run.
Kelsie Bell Etheridge went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Sarah Petite went 1 for 3.
Brooke Duhon went 1 for 3 with 2 runs.
Game 2:
Lady Bears could not find that timely hit in game two as they would fall 4 to 1 to the Holmes Lady Bulldogs.
During the first two innings, it was a pitching duel. Neither team could get anything going on offense. Holmes Lady Bulldogs would break through in the third innings with 2 runs to take the early lead. The Lady Bears would break through, in the fifth inning, with a run. Brooke Duhon would single and score on a Kaitley Fisher infield single. Holmes would add two runs to their lead with a two-run homer to centerfield by H. Billie. Holmes would take a 4 to 1 lead after five. The Lady Bears offensive struggles continued in the last two innings thus fall in game two by the final score of 4 to 1.
M. Chaffier earned the victory for Holmes. She pitched seven innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 3. Kelsie Bell Etheridge took the loss for the Lady Bears. KB pitched six innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 2.
Holmes out hit Baton Rouge 8 to 5. Each team committed two errors in the ball game.

The Lady Bears will continue their road swing with a trip to Port Arthur, Texas on Wednesday March 24, to take on the Lamar Port Arthur Seahawks in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
