Lady Bears swept by LSUE Lady Bengals

LSUE Lady Bengals sweep this afternoon doubleheader with the Baton Rouge Lady Bears.  LSUE wins 15-5 ,in five innings, in game one and 13-5, in six innings, in game two.

 

Game 1:

LSUE Lady Bengal's would score early and often, and the Baton Rouge Lady Bears would attempt a comeback, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficient.  LSUE defeats Baton Rouge 15 to 5, in a five-inning run rule.

LSUE would jump out early and score four runs, in the first inning, to take the early 4-0 lead over the Lady Bears.  The Lady Bengal would score 4 more runs, in the second, highlighted by a K. Smith two-run homer. The Lady Bears would get on the board, in the bottom of the second, via a lead off homer by Freshman shortstop Montana Smith.  The Lady Bears would load the bases with a walk and back-to-back singles by Kylie Lormand and Kaitley Fisher. Baton Rouge would score their second run of the game when Leanne Lain would score on a Claire Blanchard sac fly to left field.  After two innings, LSUE led 8 to 2. LSUE would tact on 3 more runs, in the third inning.  Their inning was highlighted by a S. Simon homer to centerfield.  The Lady Bears would claw back, in the bottom of the third, with 3 runs via a 3-run homer by Frashaylon Angelle to left field.  After three innings LSUE led 11 to 5. LSUE would add another run to their lead in the fourth inning; 12-5. The Lady Bengals would score 3 more, runs in the fifth inning, to seal the 15 to 5 victory.

LSUE scored at least 1 run in every inning.  The Lady Bengals outhit the Lady Bears 12 to 8. Baton Rouge committed 5 errors compared to 1 by LSUE.

Simon earned the victory for the Lady Bengals. She pitched 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. Leanne Lain took the loss for the Lady Bears. Leanne pitched 2 innings, allowing 10 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2. Saylor Young pitched 3 innings in relief for the Lady Bears.

 

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 2 for 4.

Claire Blanchard had an RBI.

Sarah Petite went 1 for 2 with 1 Run and 1 BB.

Montana Smith went 2 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 HR.

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 1 with 1 Run, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Kylie Lormand went 2 for 2 with 1 BB.

 

Game 2:

The Lady Bears fell behind early and just could not catch up, as the LSUE Lady Bengals  would win game two 13-5, in six innings.

For the second straight game the Lady Bengals would jump out early, and score 4 runs, in the first inning.  The Lady Bears would respond with 2 runs, in the bottom of the first. Kaitley Fisher would lead off with a single to left field and be driven home with a double by Brooke Romano. Kelsie Bell Etheridge would single to left field scoring Romano.  After one, the Lady Bengals had a 4 to 2 lead over the Lady Bears.  LSUE would add a run, in the third inning, to extend their lead; 5-2. The Lady Bengals would tact on 3 more runs in the fourth inning, 2 of those runs coming off a K. Fontenot homer to left field. The Lady Bears would scratch closer with a run, in the fourth inning. Frashaylon Angelle would walk, advance to third on a Sarah Petite double and score on a Brooke Duhon ground out. After four innings, the Lady Bengals led 8 to 3.  LSUE would add two more runs, in the fifth inning, via a two-run homer by S. Simon. The Lady Bears would continue to scratch and fight as they would inch closer with two more runs in the fifth.  Brooke Romano would lead off with a single, followed by a walk by Montana Smith and Frashaylon Angelle would single to load the bases. Sarah Petite would single scoring Romano. Tori Richard would ground out to the pitcher, but Smith would score. After five innings, the Lady Bears trailed 10 to 5. LSUE would hit two homers, in the sixth, to seal the 13 to 5 six inning run rule victory.

 

Cendall Barton earned the victory for the Lady Bengals. She pitched two innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 2. Kelsie Bell Etheridge took the loss for the Lady Bears. KB pitched five and one-third innings allowing 13 runs on 16 hits while striking out 5. Jodi Broussard pitched in relief for the Lady Bears.

 

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 16 to 9. Baton Rouge was credited with 3 errors in the ballgame.

 

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 4 with 1 run.

Brooke Romano went 3 for 3 with 2 Runs, 1 BB and 1 RBI

Montana Smith went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Kelsie Bell Etheridge went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 2 with 1 Run.

Sarah Petite went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Brooke Duhon had 1 RBI.

Tori Richard had 1 RBI.

 

With the pair of victories, LSUE improves to 21-8, while the Lady Bears fall to 4-13 on the season.

 

Next up for the Lady Bears is a road trip on Monday March 22, 2021 to Goodman, Mississippi to take on Holmes Community College in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
