Lady Bears Softball  gets swept by #16 Bossier Parish

Baton Rouge could not slow down the high-powered offense of the Bossier Parish Lady Cavs this afternoon in Bossier City. The #16 nationally ranked Lady Cavs sweep the Lady Bears.

Game 1:

Bossier Parish Lady Cavs came out on fire and continued their hot hitting enroute to the 9 to 0, fifth inning mercy rule victory.

The Lady Cavs would get on the board first with 3 runs in the first, for the early lead. Bossier would tack on 3 more in the third and three more in the fifth to secure the victory. The Lady Bears struggled at the plate only scattering two hits in the ball game.

Bossier Parish out hit Baton Rouge 6 to 2. Baton Rouge was credited with 3 errors in the game compared to 1 by Bossier Parish.

Kiana Pogroszewski earned the victory for Bossier. She pitched five innings allowing 0 Runs on 2 hits while striking out 6. Kelsie Bell Etheridge earned the loss for Baton Rouge. KB pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing 9 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher was 1 for 3.

Claire Blanchard was 1 for 2.

 Game 2:

Bossier Parish Lady Cavs jumped out the gates quick again, this time scoring 7 runs, in the first inning, for the early advantage. The Lady Cavs would hit two homers, in the first inning.   Lady Bears freshman pitcher Leanne Lain would settle down and hold the Lady Cavs scoreless over the next two innings. The Lady Bears did not quit as they would score 4 runs, in the third inning, to pull within 3 runs; 7-4.  In the third, Leanne Lain would lead off with a single to right field and score on a Kaitley a Fisher double to left field.  Brooke Romano would then hit a three-run homer to left field. Bossier would respond with three runs in the fourth inning, via a S Eckert homer to left field.  After four innings, the Lady Cavs led 10 to 4.  The Lady Bears would scratch across two more runs, in the sixth inning, to inch closer; 10 to 6. Sarah Petite would trade places with Claire Blanchard when she would double to left field, scoring Blanchard who doubled. Petite would score on a passed ball.  The Lady Cavs would add an insurance run in the sixth inning; 11 to 4. The Lady Bears would go down in order, in the seventh, thus losing game two 11 to 4.

 

Bossier Parish outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 5. The Lady Cavs were credited with 4 errors in the ball game.

Mabry Smith earned the victory for the Lady Cavs. She pitched seven innings allowing 6 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7. Leanne Lain earned the loss for the Lady Bears. Leanne pitched four innings allowing 10 runs on 7 hits while striking 1. Saylor Young pitched in relief for the Lady Bears. Saylor pitched two innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits.

 

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 4with 1 Run and1 RBI.

Brooke Romano went 1 for 4 with 1 Run, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Claire Blanchard went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Sarah Petite went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Leanne Lain went 1 for 1 with 1 BB and 1 Run.

 

With the sweep Bossier Parish improves to 13-5, while Baton Rouge falls to 3-10 on the season.

 

Next up for the Lady Bears will be a home doubleheader on Wednesday March 10 versus Galveston College starting at 2 pm at Traction.
