Lady Bears swept by Southwest Mississippi

Lady Bears struggled this afternoon to find that timely hit as they were swept by the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears.

 

Game 1:

Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears would score early and often to secure the 10 to 2 five innings run rule victory.

Southwest would score first and explode for 5 runs, in the second inning, to take the lead. They would tact on two more runs, in the third, to take a commanding 7 to 0 lead over Baton Rouge Lady Bears.  The BRCC Lady Bears finally got on the board, in the fourth inning, with a run. They would open the inning with back to back singles by  Brooke Romano and  Kelsie Bell Etheridge. Frashaylon Angelle would single to left field driving in Romano for the Lady Bears first run of the ball game.  BRCC would scratch across another run, in the fifth inning, when Kaitley Fisher, who walked would score on a sac fly by Etheridge.  Southwest would score 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 10 to 2 run rule victory.

 

J. Gremillion earned the victory for Southwest Mississippi. She pitched four innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3. Saylor Young took the loss for Baton Rouge. Saylor pitched 1.1 innings allowing 5 runs on 1 hit while walking two. Jodi Broussard pitched 3.1 innings in relief for the Lady Bears.

 

Game 1 Lady Bears Highlights

Kourtni Jagneaux went 1 for 1

Brooke Romano went 1 for 2 with 1 BB and 1 Run

Kelsie Bell Etheridge went 1 for 1 with 1 BB and 1 RBI 

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI

 

 

Game 2:

 

Baton Rouge had early struggles on the mound that lead to two runs by Southwest. BRCC would rally late but it was not enough as Southwest would defeat Baton Rouge 4 to 2.

 

Southwest would get on the board first with two runs, in the first. After those two runs, BRCC Lady Bears pitcher Leanne Alain settled down and held Southwest scoreless for the next four innings. Unfortunately for Baton Rouge, their offense struggled for the second straight game.  BRCC would finally get on the board with a run in the sixth inning.  Fisher, who walked would tag up on a Etheridge fly out to right field for the ladies first run of the game. After six, BRCC trailed 2 to 1.  Southwest would add two insurance runs, in the bottom of the sixth, to take a 4 to 1 lead.  Baton Rouge would rally in the seventh, with back to back to back singles by Duhon, Richard and Fisher to score a run. That's would be all for Baton Rouge as they would strand the tying run at first . Southwest survives the late BRCC rally to win game two 4 to 2.

 

J. Latham earned the victory for Southwest. She pitched 7 innings allowing 2 Runs on 6 hits, while striking out 8. Leanne Lain earned the loss for Baton Rouge. Leanne pitched 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2 and walking 6.

 

Game 2 Lady Bears Highlights 

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 3 with 1 Run, 1 BB and 1 RBI

Claire Blanchard went 1 for 3

Brooke Romano went 2 for 2 with 1 BB

Kelsie Bell Etheridge had 1 RBI

Brooke Duhon went 1 for 1 with 1 Run

Tori Richard went 1 for 3

 

With the victories Southwest Mississippi improves to 8-2 while Baton Rouge falls to 3 to 8.

 

Next up for the Baton Rouge Lady Bears will be a Thursday rematch versus the Co-Lin Lady Wolves at home starting at 1 pm.
