Lady Bears Sweep Mississippi Delta

The bats came alive this afternoon, as the Baton Rouge Lady Bears, sweep the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans, in a doubleheader.  The Lady Bears win game one 11 to 6 and game two 6 to 5.

 

Game 1:

Mississippi Delta would get on the board first with a run, in the second inning, to take the early 1 to 0 advantage over Baton Rouge. The Lady Bears would take the lead when Redshirt Freshman Brooke Romano would hit a two-run homer to left field. After three the Lady Bears led 2 to 1.  The lead was short lived as the Lady Trojans would tie the game, in the fourth inning, with a lead off solo hoer by M. Hill to left field. Baton Rouge would retake the lead, in the bottom of the fourth, with 3 runs.  The Lady Bears would lead off the inning with back-to-back singles by Kelsie Bell Etheridge and Montana Smith.  KB would tag up and score on a Sacrifice Fly by Isabella Landeche for the ladies first run in the frame. Kaitley Fisher would single up the middle driving in Sarah Petite who reached on a fielder's choice.  Alyson Pourciau would single up the middle scoring Brooke Duhon who reached on a bunt single to cap off the Lady Bears three run fourth inning.  After four inning, Baton Rouge led 5 to 2 over Mississippi Delta. Baton Rouge would add to their lead with two runs, in the fifth inning, when Isabella Landeche would reach one an error driving in Etheridge and Smith who both singled.  The Lady Trojans would get a run back, in the sixth inning, via a solo homer by M Bigbee.   The Lady Bears would respond, in the sixth, with 3 more runs to extend their lead to 11 to 4.  The Lady Trojans would not go down without a fight as they would inch closer with back-to-back homer, in the seventh inning, by A. Carlisle and C. McPherson, but it was not enough as the Lady Bears would win game one 11 to 6.

 

Kelsie Bell Etheridge would earn the victory for Baton Rouge. KB pitched seven innings allowing 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6 ans walking 1. Gracie Parsons earned the loss for Mississippi Delta.  She pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing 5 runs on 10 hits while striking out two.

Baton Rouge outhit Mississippi Delta 15 to 7. Each team at 1 error in the game. Baton Rouge hit 1 homerun while Mississippi Delta hit 4.

 

Game 1 Lady Bears Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs, 1 RBI, 1 BB and 2 Stolen bases

Brooke Romano went 2 for 4 with 1 Run, 2 RBIS and 1 HR

Kelsie Bell Etheridge went 4 for 4 with 3 Runs and 1 RBI.

Montana Smith went 4 for 4 with 2 Runs, and 1 RBI.

Brooke Duhon went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

 

Game 2:

 

A solid pitching performance by Saylor Young and Leanne Lain and some timely hitting by the Lady Bears would lead them to a 6 to 5 game two come back victory over Mississippi Delta.

Baton Rouge would jump out the gates early with a run in the first inning to take an early 1 to 0 lead.  Kaitley Fisher would lead off with a single, advance to third on a bunt single by Alyson Pourciau and score on a ground out by Brooke Romano for the ladies first run of the ball game. Delta would score three runs, in the third inning, to tale a brief 3 to 1 lead.  In the bottom of the third, the Lady Bears would retake the lead off a three-run homer to left field by Freshman infielder Sarah Petite.  After three innings, the Lady Bears held a slim 4 to 3 lead over the Lady Trojans. Mississippi Delta would retake the lead with back-to-back homers by M Hill and M Newcomer in the fifth inning; 5 to 4. Baton Rouge would tie the game, in the bottom of the fifth, when Freshman Claire Blanchard would double to left field scoring Lain who reached on a single to left field.  After five innings, the score was knotted at 5.  In the sixth inning the Lady Bears would scratch across the winning run when Montana Smith would hit a triple to right field driving in Romano. Leanne Lain would shut the Lady Trojans down, in the seventh, to preserve the 6 to 5 hard fought comeback victory.

 

Both teams tailed 12 hits in the ball game. Neither team committed an error in the game. Baton Rouge hit one home run the game while Delta hit two.

 

Saylor Young started the game on the mound for the Lady Bears. Saylor pitched five innings allowing 5 runs off 11 hits while striking out 5. Leanne Lain earned the victory for the Lady Bears as she pitched two innings in relief. Leanne allowed 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2. Cearra McPherson earned the loss for the Lady Trojans.  She pitched six innings allowing 6 runs on 12 hits while striking out 2.

 

Game 2 Lady Bears Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 3 for 4 with 1 Run.

Alyson Pourciau went 1 for 3.

Brooke Romano had 1 Run.

Montana Smith went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Sarah Petite went 2 for 4 with 1 Run, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Leanne Lain went 1 for 1 with 1 Run.

Isabella Landeche went 1 for 2.

Claire Blanchard went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI.

 

 

With the pair of victories, the Lady Bears improve to 3-4 on the season, while Mississippi Delta falls to 0-6 on the season.

 

Next up for the Lady Bears will be a road trip to Wesson, Mississippi to face the Co-Lin Lady Wolves in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm on Wednesday February 24.
