Baton Rouge Lady Bears concluded the 2020 JUCO classic with a match up with the Meridian Lady Eagles. The Lady Bears would take the lead late with six runs over the last three innings to secure the 10 to 7 victory over the Lady Eagles.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run in the first. Kaitely Fisher would lead off the game with a walk and she would score on a single by Frashaylon Angelle. The Lady Bears would add to their lead with another run, in the second inning. Kaitley Fisher would single to centerfield scoring Courtney Ortego, who lead off the inning with a walk. Meridian Lady Eagles would get on the board, in the third inning, with four runs to take a 4 to 2 lead. The Lady Bears would tie the game in the bottom of the inning with two runs. Brooke Romano would lead off the inning with a solo homerun to left field. Courtney Ortego would double to left field scoring Krystal Stubbs who singled to tie the game at four. Baton Rouge would retake the lead, in the fourth inning, when Mackenzie Hebert would lead off the inning with a double to centerfield.  Mack would score when Katiley Fisher would reach on a fielding error. After four, the Lady Bears held a slim 5 to 4 lead.  Again, Meridian would not go away as they would tie the game, in the fifth inning, with a lead off solo homerun by K. Patterson. The Lady Bears would retake the lead, in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Courtney Ortego would score on a ground out by Mackenzie Hebert. The Lady Bears would extend their lead with four runs in the sixth inning.  After six innings, the Lady Bears lead 10 to 5. The Lady Eagles would attempt a rally in the seventh inning, but they could only score two runs. The Lady Bears would defeat the Lady Eagles 10 to 7 in their final game of the 2020 JUCO classic.

Leanne Lain started the game for the Lady Bears. Leanne pitched two and two-thirds innings. Saylor Young earned the victory for the Lady Bears. Saylor pitched four and a third innings allowing three runs on three hits. Vicknair earned the loss for the Lady Eagles. She pitched six innings allowing ten runs on twelve hits.

The Lady Bears would finish the JUCO Classic, hosted by Hinds Community College, with a 3-1 record.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 BB

Sydnee Davis went 2 for 4 with 1 run

Brooke Romano went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI

Frashaylon Angelle went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Courtney Ortego went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and 1BB

Mackenzie Hebert went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

With the victory the Lady Bears improve to 4-8 on the season.

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Monday March 2 as they travel to Raymond, MS to take on Hinds Community College in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
