Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Brandon Mississippi to take part in the 2020 JUCO classic hosted by Hinds Community College. The Lady Bears' first opponent was the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bears came out firing on all cylinders as they would score ten runs in the first inning. The Ladies would use that huge run explosion to earn the 12 to 4 run rule victory.
Holmes Lady Bulldogs would score first with one run, in the first inning. The Lady Bears would respond with ten runs, in the bottom of the first inning, to take a commanding 10-1 lead after one inning. BRCC would load the bases, then Bailey Duhon would hit a double to centerfield scoring two runs to start the run explosion. Krystal Stubbs would follow with a single to centerfield scoring two more runs. Frashaylon Angelle would single to centerfield driving in two more runs. The Lady Bears would score four more runs to conclude the first inning.
Holmes would get another run, in the second inning, via a homerun by L. Mckelroy. The Lady Bulldogs would add two more runs in the third inning, but they still trailed the Lady Bears 10 to 4. Baton Rouge would add some insurance runs, in the bottom of the third, when Brooke Romano would hit a two-run homerun to centerfield.
Leanne Lain would shut down the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lady Bears would win 12 to 4 in a five-inning mercy rule.
Leanne Lain earned the victory for the Lady Bears. Leanne pitched five innings allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out three. Katie Dana took the loss for Holmes. She pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing twelve runs on eight hits.
Lady Bears Highlights:
Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 3 with 2 runs
Sydnee Davis went 1 for 3 with 3 runs and 1 RBI
Brooke Romano went 1 for 2 with 2 runs and 4 RBIs- including homer
Bailey Duhon went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs
Krystal Stubbs went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs
Courtney Ortego went 2 for 3 with 1 run
Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs
With the victory the Lady Bears improve to 2-7 on the season.
The Lady Bears will conclude day one of the JUCO classic with a rematch against the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans at 6 pm.
