Lady Bears split with Lady Trojans

The Lady Bears softball team splits with the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans today at Oak Villa Park.  The Lady Bears win game one 14 to 1 in run rule fashion and fall in game two 9 to 8 in extra innings.

The bats came alive for the Lady Bears today in the first game today versus the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans. The Lady Bears pounded out 13 hits including 2 homeruns enroute to the 14 to 1 run rule victory. The Lady Bears would get on the board first with three runs, in the first inning. Kaitley Fisher would reach on an error and score on a Sydnee Davis double to left field.  Bailey Duhon would hit a two-run homerun to left field.  Mississippi Delta would get on the board, in the second inning, with a leadoff homerun by B Spiers. After two innings, the Lady Bears led 3 to 1. The Lady Bears would tact on two more runs, in the third, to take a 5 to 1 lead.  Bailey Duhon would reach on an error and score on a double to centerfield by Krystal StubbsCourtney Ortego, who singled, would score on a ground out by Jodi Broussard.  The Lady Bears would break the game open, in the fourth inning, with 9 runs.  The inning was highlighted by a two-run homer by freshman Jodi Broussard.  After four innings, the Lady Bears held a commanding 14 to 1 lead.  Leanne Lain would shut the door on the Lady Trojans, in the fifth inning, as she would strikeout two of the four batters she faced.  The Lady Bears would win game one 14 to 1.

Leanne Lain earned the victory for the Lady Bears.  She pitched a complete game allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 9. Gracie Parson took the loss for the Lady Trojans.  She pitched three innings allowing 9 runs on 9 hits.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 2 for 4 with 2 runs

Sydnee Davis went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs

Brooke Romano went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Bailey Duhon went 2 for 4 with 3 run and 2 RBIs- including a homer

Krystal Stubbs went 2 for 2 with 1 run and 3 RBIs

Jodi Broussard went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 3 RBIs- including a homer

Leanne Lain pitched 5 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 9

 

 

The Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans would come out of the gates hot scoring 6 runs in the first three innings.  The Lady Bears would forge a comeback and force extra innings, but it was not enough as they would fall, in game two, 9 to 8.

Mississippi Delta would score three runs in the second and 3 run in the third inning to take an early 6 to 0 lead.  The Lady Bears would get on the board with five runs, in the bottom of the third inning, to pull within one; 5 to 4. Jacee Gainer would single and score on a Kaitley Fisher double to center field. Sydnee Davis and Brooke Romano would hit back to back singles driving in a run.  Jodi Broussard would clear the bases with a three-run homer to left field. The Lady Trojans would add a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth to extend their lead to 8 to 5. The Lady Bears would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Frashaylon Angelle would lead off the sixth inning with a homer to centerfield.  Madison Wilder and Jacee Gainer would both single and would be driven in by a Kaitley Fisher double.  The game was tied after seven innings thus forcing extra innings.  In the eighth inning, the Lady Trojans would score one run to take an 9 to 8 lead. The Lady Bears could not mustard any magic in the eighth inning thus falling 9 to 8.

Cearra McPherson earned the win for the Lady Trojans.  She pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 5 runs on six hits while striking out 1. Saylor Young would earn the loss for the Lady Bears. Saylor pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 6 runs on 10 hits. Jodi Broussard pitched in relief for the Lady Bears.

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 3 for 5 with 1 run and 3 RBIs

Sydnee Davis went 3 for 5 with 1 run

Brooke Romano went 1 for 4 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 BB

Jodi Broussard went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 3 RBIs- including a homer

Frashaylon Angelle went 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1RBI – including a homer

Jacee Gainer went 2 for 4 with 2 runs

 

With the split the Lady Bears are now 1-5 on the season.

The Lady Bears will be back in action tomorrow Saturday February 15 as they travel to Poplarville, Mississippi to take on the Pearl River Lady Wildcats at 1 & 3 pm.
