Lady Bears Sophomore Night

The Lady Bears welcomed in state revivals the  LSUE Lady Bengals, in for a pair of games today, for sophomore night at Oak Villa Park. No.2 LSUE would spoil the party and sweep the day.  LSUE won game one 12 to 6 and game two 16 to 1.

In game one, it was a battle of the long ball with each team hitting multiple home runs but the Lady Bengals would hit two more than the Lady Bears to take the 12 to 6 victory. LSUE would get on the board first with a run, in the first.  The Lady Bears would respond with two runs, in the bottom of the frame, via a two run home run to left field by Bailey Duhon to take a 2 to 1 lead, after one. The Lady Bengals would tie the game, in the second, and take a 4 to 2 lead after a two run homer run by Sara Tate. The Lady Bears would inch closer, in the fourth inning, when Payge Hebert would hit a solo homerun to centerfield.  After four innings, the Lady Bengals led 4 to 3. The Lady Bengals would extend their lead with four runs, in the fifth, off of two more home runs and two more runs, in the sixth, for a 10 to 3 lead.  The Lady Bears would continue to fight as they would score three runs, in the sixth, to close the gap to 10 to 6. Bailey Duhon would reach on an error and score on a Haleigh Laylle single to centerfield. Payge Hebert, who reached on an error, would score on a double by Kelsey Cifreo. Haleigh Laylle would also score on the Cifreo double. LSUE would hit their fourth home run of the game, in the seventh.

Heather Zumo earned the victory for the Lady Bengals. She pitched four innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four. Baiey Duhon earned the loss for the Lady Bears.  Bailey pitched seven innings allowing twelve runs on ten hits while striking out two.

Game 1 Lady Bears Highlights:

Hallie Autin went 1 for 4

Blayne Pence went 1 for 4 with 1 run

Bailey Duhon went 1 for 4 with 2 Runs and 2 RBIs

Payge Hebert went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI

Haleigh Laylle went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Kelsey Cifreo went 2 for 3

 

In game two, the Lady Bears struggled to contain the high powered offense of the Lady Bengals.  The Lady Bengals would take advantage of some defensive errors by the Lady Bears to score nine runs in the first inning, in which, the Lady Bears could not rebound from.  Again, LSUE used the long ball to dominate the Lady Bears.  They hit three home runs in the game. LSUE would add five more runs to their lead, in the second, and two more, in the fourth, to take a 16 to 0 lead over the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears would get on the board with one run, in the fourth inning, when they would take advantage of some defensive lapses by the Lady Bengals. Savanna Orgeron would reach on an error and score when Payge Hebert would reach on another error. LSUE held Baton Rouge hit less in the game.

Howell earned the victory for LSUE.  She pitched five innings allowing one run on zero hits while striking out twelve. Kelsey Cifreo took the loss for the Lady Bears.  She pitched three and a third innings allowing 16 runs on 12 hits.

 

After the games, the BRCC athletic department honored ten sophomores that have dedicated and sacrificed their time and efforts for the Lady Bears program.  Those sophomore were Savanna Orgeron, Hallie Autin, Blayne Pence, Payge Hebert, Cori Breaux, Shelby Breaux, Shelby McDonald, Jessy Ortiz, Sydnee Davis and Kelsey Cifreo.

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Monday April 22 and Tuesday April 23 as travel to Texas for four games against San Jac and Blinn
