Lady Bears Sweep Lady Wolves !

Lady Bears softball finally put all the pieces of a game together to grab the sweep of the Co-Lin Lady Wolves, this afternoon at Oak Villa Park. Lady Bears rally in the eighth to take the 3 to 2 walk off victory in game one and use a big inning and an outstanding pitching performance by Bailey Duhon to take game two; 3 to 2.

 Co-Lin Lady Wolves would score first with one run, in the first, to take the early lead. For the next five innings, it was a pitching duel between Lady Bears Lacey Bonvillain and Lady Wolves Kaylton Ward. Both pitchers held the other team scoreless in those five innings while striking out 12 combined. Baton Rouge would tie the game, in the bottom of the seventh, with one run. Courtney Ortego would single to left field and score on a Payge Hebert's fielders choice to tie the game and send it into extra innings.  In the eighth, the Lady Wolves would score one run to take a 2 to 1 lead.  The Lady Bears would not quit. In the eighth, with two outs, Blayne Pence and Krystal Stubbs would draw back to back walks.  Pence would score on a error by the shortstop on a Bailey Duhon's hard hit ball, to tie the game at 2.  Courtney Ortego would then hit a walk off single to left field scoring Stubbs and earning the Lady Bears the 3 to 2 victory.

Kelsey Cifreo, came in relief for the Lady Bears to pick up the victory.  Kelsey pitched one inning allowing, zero runs on two hits.  Lacey Bonvillain started on the mound for the Lady Bears.  Lacey pitched seven gutsy innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight. Kaylton Ward got the loss for Co-Lin.  She pitched seven and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four.

 

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Savanna Orgeron went 1 for 4

Hallie Autin went 1 for 4

Courtney Ortego went 3 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Lauren Price went 1 for 3

Lacey Bonvillain pitched seven innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 8.

 

In game two, the Lady Wolves would score two runs early to take a 2 to 0 lead after two innings.  This time the Lady Bears would use a big third inning to take a 3 to 2 lead that they would not relinquish. In the third inning, Hallie Autin would double to centerfield and score on a Blayne Pence single.  Pence would later score on a Kelsey Cifreo single to the shortstop. Payge Hebert would single to left field, scoring Krystal Stubbs.

Bailey Duhon pitched an awesome game.  She held the Lady Wolves scoreless over the last five innings of the ball game, to earn the victory for the Lady Bears.  Bailey pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven. Gros took the loss for the Lady Wolves.  She pitched four innings allowing three runs on eleven hits while striking out three.

The Lady Bears will be back in action this thursday March 14 versus Coastal Alabama South in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Oak Villa Park.
