Lady Bears drop a pair to Southwest Mississippi

Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears grabbed two victories from BRCC Lady Bears, this afternoon at Oak Villa Park. Southwest used a late rally to take game one 10 to 7.  They would also take the rainy night cap 5 to 3.

BRCC Lady Bears would get on the board first with two runs to take the early lead. Blayne Pence would lead off with a single and then Hallie Autin would reach on an error.  Both would score on a single to left field by Savanna Orgeron. Southwest would take the lead in the second, after scoring three runs.  Both teams would score a run, in the third inning.   In the third, Krystal Stubbs, who reached on a fielder's choice, would score on a Savanna Orgeron double to centerfield. After three, Southwest led 4 to 3. Southwest would extend their lead to 6 to 3 with two runs in the fifth.  Baton Rouge would rally, in the sixth, with four runs to take a 7 to 6 lead.  In the sixth, BRCC Lady Bears would start their scoring when Payge Hebert, who led off with a double, would score on a Cori Breaux single.  They would score two more runs on a single to center field by Hallie Autin.  Autin would later score on a single by Krystal Stubbs to take the 7 to 6 lead. Southwest would respond, in the top of the seventh, with four runs to retake the lead at 10 to 7.  Baton Rouge could not mustard any offense in the bottom of the inning, thus falling in game one by the final score of 10 to 7.

Jordan McNabb earned the victory for Southwest.  She pitched five and a third innings allowing six runs off of seven hits. Kelsey Cifreo  got the loss for the Lady Bears she pitched four innings allowing six runs on nine hits.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Hallie Autin went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs, 2 RBIs and 1 BB

Krystal Stubbs went 1 for 4 with 1 Run, 1 RBI

Savanna Orgeron went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs

Cori Breaux went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Bailey Duhon went 1 for 1 with 1 Run

 

In game two, Southwest scattered eleven hits, scoring five runs to take the 5 to 3 victory over Baton Rouge.

Southwest would get on the board first with a homer run by McNabb, in the first inning. Baton Rouge would respond with a run of their own, in the bottom of the first, to tie the game at one. Blayne Pence would lead off with a single and score on a Krystal Stubbs single to right field.  Southwest would score two runs in the second and a run in the fourth and the fifth to take a 5 to 1 lead over the BRCC Lady Bears.  Baton Rouge would scratch across two runs, in the fifth, but that would be all they could mustard for the game. In the fifth, Cori Breaux would lead off with a walk, followed by a double by Kelsey Cifreo and a single by Hallie Autin scoring the Lady Bears first run of the inning. Cifreo would later score on a sac fly by Haleigh Laylle.

Baton Rouge was outhit 11 to 5 and they also committed three errors in the game.

Jade Latham earned the victory for Southwest.  She pitched four and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Bailey Duhon got the loss for Baton Rouge. She pitched seven innings allowing five runs on eleven hits, while striking out three.

Lady Bears Game 2 : Highlights:

Hallie Autin went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Krystal Stubbs went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

Kelsey Cifreo went 1 for 3 with 1 run

 

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this weekend March 1st and 2nd when they participate in the Coastal Alabama tournament in Atmore, Alabama. First game will be Friday at 9 am versus Mississippi Gulf Coast.
