Lady Bears drop a pair to Pearl River Lady Wildcats

Baton Rouge Lady Bears drop a pair of games to the Pearl River Lady Wildcats tonight at Oak Villa Park. The Lady Bears would rally, in game one, but come up short, 6 to 5.  In game two, it was all Pearl River from start to finish, with them defeating the Lady Bears 14 to 0, in five innings.

In game one, Pearl River would get on the board first with a run in the first and two runs, in the second, to take a 3-0 lead after two.  Baton Rouge would  score two runs, in the third inning, to close the gap to 3-2. Blayne Pence would lead off the inning with a home run to center field. Payge Hebert would score the second run of the game for the Lady Bears. The Lady Wildcats would respond with a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 6 to 2 after five. The Lady Bears would start their rally in the sixth with one run and finish just short with two runs in the seventh. In the sixth, Courtney Ortego would reach on an error, advance to second on another error and get to third on a great sacrifice bunt by Lauren Price. She would score on a Blayne Pence sac fly to center field.  In the seventh, the Lady Bears would start the inning off with singles by Haleigh Laylle and  Savanna Orgeron.  Laylle would score on pass ball. Orgeron would advance to third on a single by Krystal Stubbs and score on the next play with an error by Pearl River. The Lady Bears rally would end on a Lauren Price ground out to the third basemen.  Pearl River takes game one 6 to 5.

Rylee Swilley got the win for Pearl River.  She pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing two runs on three hits. Kelsey Cifreo got the loss for Baton Rouge.  She pitched seven innings, allowing six runs on eleven hits.

 

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Blayne Pence went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

Haleigh Laylle went 2 for 4 with 1 run

Savanna Orgeron went 2 for 4 with 1 run

 

In game two, Pearl River used two big innings to defeat Baton Rouge 14 to 0, in five innings.  Pearl River would score three runs in the second, one run in the third and ten runs in the fourth.  The Lady Bears struggled at the plate only getting two hits in the game. Each team committed two errors.

Krista Robles earned the victory for the Lady Wildcats. She pitched five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits. Bailey Duhon would get the loss for the Lady Bears.  She pitched three innings allowing eight runs on five hits.  Kelsey Cifreo pitched two innings, in relief, for the Lady Bears.

Hallie Autin was 1 for 3

Cori Breaux was 1 for 2

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Friday February 22 as they take on the Co-Lin Lady Wolves in a double header starting at 2 pm.  The game will be played at the Central Sports Complex.
