Lady Bears split doubleheader with Hinds Lady Eagles

 Lady Bears fall in game one by a final score of 7 to 6 but rally to defeat the Lady Eagles 7 to 5 in game two, to pick up their first victory of the young season.

In game one, the Lady Bears got on the board first with two runs in the first. Blayne Pence would reach base on a error by the Lady Eagles pitcher.  Hallie Autin was then walked.  Pence would score the Lady Bears' first run of the game when Haliegh Laylle would reach on another Lady Eagles error.  Hallie Autin would score when she would steal home with Savanna Orgeron at the plate.

Hinds Lady Eagles responded with four runs, in the bottom of the first, to grab a 4 to 2 lead after one. Hinds would tact on another run, in the third, to extend their lead to 5 to 2. Baton Rouge would score a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth.  In the fourth, Blayne Pence would single to center field and later score on a double by Hallie Autin to left field. Hinds would again score in the fourth to take a 6 to 3 lead. In the fifth, Baton Rouge would get a bit closer with another run. Courtney Ortego would reach on an error and score on a Shelby McDonald double to left field. Hinds would add an insurance run in the sixth to take a 7 to 4 lead over Baton Rouge heading into the seventh.  The Lady Bears did not quit and would score two runs in the seventh but it would not be enough as they would fall in game one by the final score of 7 to 6. 

Sydney Davis got the victory for the Hinds Lady Eagles. She pitched six innings, allowing four runs over nine hits. Lacey Bonvillain got the loss for the Lady Bears.  She pitched three innings, allowing five runs on four hits while striking out four.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Blayne Pence went 4 for 5 with 2 runs and 1 RBI

Hallie Autin went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

Shelby McDonald went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

 

In game two, it was the Lady Bears that used a late scoring rally to defeat the Hinds Lady Eagles by the final score of 7 to 5.

Baton Rouge would again get on the board first with one run in the first. Hallie Autin, who walked and stole second, would score on a sacrifice fly by Savanna Orgeron.  Hinds would respond with two runs in the first and one run in the second to take a 3 to 1 lead after two innings. Baton Rouge would add one run in the third and one run in the fourth innings to tie the game at 3. In the third, Blayne Pence would open the inning with a triple to center field and would score on a ground out by Hallie Autin.  In the fifth, the Lady Bears would score when Hallie Autin would single to the shortstop and score on a single by Savanna Orgeron to left field.

Hinds Lady Eagles would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs, 5 to 3.  Baton Rouge Lady Bears would erupt for four runs, in the sixth, to take a 7 to 5 lead which they would not relinquish.

Baton Rouge outhit Hinds 10 to 8.

Kelsey Cifreo was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears.  Kelsey pitched three innings in relief.  She  allowed two runs on four hits.  Bailey Duhon started the game for the Lady Bears.  She pitched four innings allowing three runs on four hits. Cassidy Rhea took the loss for the Hinds Lady Eagles.  She pitched two innings, allowing one run on run hit.

Blayne Pence went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Hallie Autin went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI

Haleigh Laylle went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

Savanna Orgeron went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs

Cori Breaux had 1 RBI

Payge Hebert went 2 for 3 with 1 run

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Saturday February 16 as they travel to Co-Lin to take on the Co-Lin Lady Wolves at 11:00 am and the Spoon River College Lady Snappers at 1 pm, in Wesson, Mississippi.
