Lady Bears drop a doubleheader to Pearl River

The Lady Bears concluded the Wildcat Invitational with a pair of games versus the host school Pearl River, on Saturday afternoon.  Baton Rouge loses a heartbreaker, in game one, when Pearl River would hit a walk off homer run, in the eighth, to defeat the Lady Bears by the final score of 2 to 1.  In the nightcap, Pearl River pounded out thirteen hits compared to one for Baton Rouge to take the 8 to 0 victory, in six innings.

Game one was another good old fashion pitching duel. Pearl River would get on the board first with one run, in the third inning. Baton Rouge would respond and tie the game at one when Savanna Orgeron would homer to centerfield, in the fourth. The game would be tied at one at the end of regulation.  Baton Rouge would go down, in order, in the top of the eighth.  Pearl River would grab the walk off victory when Turner would homer to left field.  The final score was Pearl River 2 and Baton Rouge 1 in extra innings.

Rylee Swilley was the winning pitcher for Pearl River.  She pitched eight innings, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out four. Lacey Bonvillain took the loss for Baton Rouge.  She pitched seven and two-thirds innings allowing two runs on eights hits while striking out five.

Game 1 Lady Bears Highlights:

Blayne Pence went 1 for 4

Haleigh Laylle went 1 for 4

Savanna Orgeron went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1BB and 1 RBI. Homered in the fourth

Courtney Ortego went 1 for 3

Lacey Bonvillain pitched seven and two thirds innings , allowing 2 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5

 

In game two, Baton Rouge could not find their rhythm on offense at all, while Pearl River pounded out 13 hits in the game.  Pearl River got on the board first with two runs, in the second.  They added four more runs in the fourth, and one run a piece in the fifth and sixth inning to grab the 8 to 0, run rule victory over the Lady Bears. Savanna Orgeron had the Lady Bears only hit of the game.

Grace Stringer got the victory for Pearl River.  She pitched six innings, allowing zero runs on one hit while striking out four lady bears. Bailey Duhon took the loss for Baton Rouge. She pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on thirteen hits while striking out two.

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday February 13 as they travel to Hinds to play a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
