Lady Bears rally falls short to San Jac

The Lady Bears and the San Jac Lady Coyotes meant for the second day in a row, in the LSUE Lady Bengals Classic.  The game was a rematch from the opening game of the tournament for Baton Rouge  Again the two teams fought till the end but San Jac would come out on top with a 11 to 9 victory.

San Jac Coyotes would open the scoring with four runs in the second and four runs in the third to take a 8 to 0 lead over the Lady Bears.  The Lady Bears would not quit as they would rally to score three runs, in the third inning, to close the gap to 8 to 3.  The Lady Bears would load the bases when Kelsey Cifero would be hit by a pitch, Allie Vincent would single to the shortstop and Blayne Pence was also hit by a pitch.  Haleigh Laylle would draw a walk scoring the Lady Bears first run of the game. Payge Hebert would ground out to the second basemen but Allie Vincent would score from third on a fielder's choice. Hallie Autin would single to left field scoring Blayne Pence.

Baton Rouge would get on the board again with three runs, in the fifth inning, but still trailed 8 to 6. The inning would start with a Allie Vincent single to centerfield, followed by a walk by Blayne Pence. Haleigh Laylle would ground out to the third basemen but Allie Vincent would score for third on the play. Savanna Orgeron would single to centerfield scoring Pence. Courtney Ortego would single to center field scoring another run.

San Jac would hit a two run homer in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 11 to 6.  But again the Lady Bears refused to quit as they would score two more runs in the sixth to trail 11 to 8. Allie Vincent would single to centerfield and score on a Blayne Pence double to centerfield.  Haleigh Laylle would reach on an error, and Pence would score on the play for the Lady Bears second run of the inning.

In the seventh, the Lady Bears attempted one last rally but they came up short.  They could only score one run in the inning, when Cori Breaux would double to left field and later score when Kelsey Cifreo would single to right field.  San Jac would defeat Baton Rouge for the second time in two days by the score of 11 to 9.

Baton Rouge out hit San Jac 10 to 8 , but again defensive miscues led to the Lady Bears loss.  They committed five errors compared to only one by San Jac.

Michelle Kristoff would earn the victory for San Jac, as she pitched four innings allowing five runs on four hits while striking out five. Bailey Duhon would get the loss for the Lady Bears as she pitched seven innings, allowing eleven runs on eights hits while striking out one.

Allie Vincent went 3 for 5 with 3 runs

Blayne Pence went 1 for 1 with 3 runs, 1 RBI and 2 BB

Haleigh Laylle went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 1 BB

Hallie Autin went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1RBI

Courtney Ortego went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Savanna Orgeron went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and 2 BB

Kelsey Cifreo went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action this afternoon, as they conclude the LSUE Lady Bengals Classic with a 2:30 pm match up with Coastal Alabama North Lady Eagles.
