San Jac defeats Baton Rouge in a slugfest

San Jac Lady Coyotes and the Baton Rouge Lady Bears were involved in a slugfest, in their open round match up, of the LSUE Lady Bengals Classic. San Jac would defeat Baton Rouge by the final score of 16-15.

San Jac got on the board first with three runs, in the first inning, to take an early lead. The Lady Bears responded for four runs of their own, in the second inning.  Shelby McDonald would walk, Courtney Ortego would double to centerfield and Payge  Hebert would draw a walk to load the bases for the Lady Bears.  Savanna Orgeron, Sophomore from New Orleans, would hit a double scoring McDonald and Ortego.  Allie Vincent would reach on an error scoring Payge and tying the game at 3. Hallie Autin would walk scoring Orgeron from third to take a one run lead.  San Jac would respond with one run, in the bottom of the frame, to tie the game at four. 

Baton Rouge would take the lead again when they scored three more runs in the third inning.  It would start when Payge Hebert would single to left field, then Savanna Orgeron would draw a walk and Allie Vincent would single to left field to load the bases again.  Blayne Pence would single to left field scoring Payge.  Hallie Autin would single to left field scoring the hustling Allie Vincent and Savanna Orgeron.  In the bottom of the third, San Jac would retake the lead, 9-7 when they scored five runs.

The Lady Bears would strike for four more runs, in the fourth inning, to take a 11 to 9 lead over San Jac. The inning started with back to back doubles by Shelby McDonald and Courtney Ortego, scoring one run. Payge Hebert would double to center field to score a run to tie the game at 9. The Lady Bears would score two more runs to take a 11 to 9 lead, in the fourth.  San Jac would tact on a run, in the bottom of the inning, but still trailed 11 to 10 after four complete innings. 

Both teams would score two runs in the fifth inning.  After five innings, Baton Rouge held a 13 to 12 lead.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Bears would add another run to their lead when Blayne Pence would score on a Haleigh Laylle sac fly to centerfield. The lead was 14 to 12. The Lady Bears would add an insurance run, in the seventh, to take a 15 to 12 lead.

In the seventh inning, some defensive miscues by the Lady Bears allowed the San Jac coyotes to tie the game at 15, then they would win the game with a double to centerfield scoring one run.

Baton Rouge out hit San Jac 13 to 11 but 7 errors by the Lady Bears ended up being their downfall in the game. San Jac Coyotes defeat Baton Rouge Lady Bears by the final score of 16 to 15.

Lacey Bonvillain took the loss for the Lady Bears as she pitched six innings, allowing 16 runs on 11 hits while striking out 3. Michelle Kristoff earned the victory for San Jac pitching 7 innings, allowing 14 runs on 13 hits and striking out 4.

Allie Vincent went 1-4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Blayne Pence went 2-3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs with 2 BB

Hallie Autin went 1-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 BB

Haleigh Laylle went 1-2 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 2BB

Savanna Orgeron went 2-4 with 3runs and 3 RBIs with 1 BB

Payge Hebert went 2-3 with 3 runs and 1 RBI with 1 BB

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action later today at 2:30 pm when they take on Southern Union State, in their second game of the LSUE Lady Bengals Classic.
