Lady Bears fight till the end but fall twice to LSUE

Lady Bears concluded the 2017-2018 season with a pair of losses to nationally ranked LSUE Lady Bengals. It was not the ending that we would have liked but this group of young ladies fought to the very end. Lady Bengals earned a shutout victory in game one, 6 to 0. In game two, the Lady Bears lose their lead late to fall 5 to 4.

In game one, LSUE's Heather Zumo pitched a complete game shutout to earn the victory.  She allowed six hits while striking out five. The Lady Bengals got on the board first with three runs in the first.  They added two more runs in the second and one more in the sixth. Lady Bears could not control the high powered offense of LSUE as they scattered nine hits. Shelby Breaux got the loss for the Lady Bears as she pitched six innings, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits.

 

Game 1: Lady Bears Highlights :

Blayne Pence and Hallie Autin went 1 for 4

Taryn McNabb, Shelby McDonald and Sara Tate went 1 for 3

Sydnee McCall went 1 for 2 with 1 BB

 

In game two, the Lady Bears fell behind early and scratched back to take the lead but fell late to the Lady Bengals 5 to 4. LSUE scored two runs in the first to take an early lead. Baton Rouge took the lead in the third, with a four run inning.  The inning began when Sydnee Davis would single to left field.  Davis was driving in by a Heather Gardner single, for the Lady Bears first run. Renee Firmin would single; driving home Gardner to tie the game at two. Liz Davis would ground out but Savanna Orgeron, who walked to get on base, scored on the hit. Renee Firmin would then score on an error by the first basemen capping off the four run inning and taking a 4 to 2 lead. LSUE would tie the game, in the bottom of the frame, with two runs. In the bottom of the sixth, H. Godeaux would single in Doucet,who walked, to score the winning run. BRCC would go down in order, in the seventh, thus losing 5 to 4.

 

Game 2: Lady Bears Highlights:

Heather Gardner went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Renee Firmin went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Sydnee Davis went 1 for2 with 1 Run and 1BB
