BRCC Splits with Southwest Mississippi

      It was a tale of two different teams in today's softball doubleheader. It was the battle of the Lady Bears. Baton Rouge split with Southwest Mississippi; in the last home games for the BRCC Lady Bears this season.

      Baton Rouge wins game one in walk off fashion with a two run homer to centerfield by Shelby McDonald. Final score was 3 to 2. Southwest would score first, in the first inning, via a pass ball. Baton Rouge would tie the game in the first when Hallie Autin scored on a pass ball. Southwest took the lead in the third with one run.  It was a pitching duel between Shelby Breaux of BRCC and K. Shipley for Southwest for the next four innings. It came down to the last at bat for BRCC. Kelsey Cifreo reached on a single to right field. Then Shelby McDonald stepped up to the plate and hit a bomb to centerfield, to walk off with the 3 to 2 victory.

      Shelby Breaux earned the victory for BRCC, pitching seven innings allowing two runs on two hits. K. Shipley took the loss for Southwest, pitching six and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

        Baton Rouge outhit Southwest five to two but committed two errors.

 

          Game two was a different story for Baton Rouge Lady Bears.  They struggled to find success at the plate and could only manage two hits. On the other hand Southwest found success at the plate pounding out 11 hits. Southwest would score two runs in the first, three in the third and one in the fifth to take the 6 to 0 victory. 

          Mikaela Smith got the win for Southwest pitching six and two-thirds innings allowing no runs on two hits. Sydnee McCall got the loss for BRCC. She pitched four and one-third innings allowing six runs on seven hits.  A bright spot for the BRCC Lady Bears was Rene Firmin who pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief. Rene allowed no runs on four hits while striking out five.

Hallie Autin went 2 for 2 with 1 Run

Kelsey Cicero went 2 for 3 with 1 Run

Shelby McDonald went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

 

Game 2 Lady Bears Highlights:

Taryn McNabb went 2 for 3

 

Baton Rouge will be back in action on Sunday April 29 as they travel to Houston, Texas to take on San Jac in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
