Lady Bears earn split with Southeastern CC

Lady Bears earn a hard fought split  versus Southeastern Community College Blackhawks. Lady Bears fall in extra innings 4 to 3 to the Blackhawks in game one.  BRCC rallies to win in walk off fashion in game two 10 to 9.

Southeastern would get on the board first, this afternoon, with one run in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. They would tact on two more runs ,in the fourth inning, to extend their lead to 3 to 0.

Baton Rouge would load the bases in third and fourth inning but could not scratch across any runs. BRCC would get on the board, in the fifth inning, scoring one run when Sydnee McCall would start the inning with a triple and would score on a Shelby McDonald's fielders choice. After five innings, Southeastern held a 3 to 1 lead over the Bears.

Lady Bears were down to their last at bat and just like yesterday a bit of magic occurred for the Lady Bears to tie the game at 3 and force extra innings.  The magic began when Shelby McDonald doubled to centerfield.  Liz Davis would pinch run for Shelby and she would score when Sara Tate doubled to centerfield. Payge Hebert missed a homerun by inches but triples instead scoring Sara Tate and tying the game at 3. Rene Firmin shut down Southeastern, in the eighth, in order.  BRCC would start off the eighth with back to back singles by Heather Gardner and Blayne Pence. Sydnee McCall would single but Heather Gardner would get called out at the plate.  Baton Rouge would leave 2 runners on in the eighth inning.

Southeastern would score one run in the ninth inning off a Smith homerun to centerfield to regain a 4 to 3 lead. Baton Rouge did not have any magic left and went down in order in the ninth. Lady Bears fall in game one 4 to 3. BRCC outhit Southeastern 16 to 7 but committed 5 errors.

Rene Firmin would get the loss for Baton Rouge while Powell would get the win for Southeastern.

Game 1: Lady Bears Highlights:

Blayne Pence went 3 for 5

Sydnee McCall went 2 for 4 with 1 Run

Shelby McDonald went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Sara Tate went 2 for 5 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Heather Gardner went 3 for 4

Rene Firmin pitched 9 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 5

 

Baton Rouge used some seventh inning magic by Heather Gardner to walk off with a 10 to 9 victory in game two.  Southeastern would get on the board first again with one run.  Unlike game one, the Lady Bears would grab a 2-1 lead after one inning.  Blayne Pence would be hit by a pitch and score on a Hallie Autin double to centerfield.  Hallie would later score on a Shelby McDonald sac fly.  The Blackhawks would capitalize on the Lady Bears mistakes in the second inning to score 4 runs to grab a 5 to 2 lead. BRCC would use a Blackhawks error and back to back hits to score a run in the second.  After two inning, Southeastern held a 5 to 3 lead.

BRCC would strike again with one run in third inning.  Sara Tate would single to left field and score on a Taryn McNabb double.  After three innings, Southeastern was up 5 to 4.

Lady Bears would grab a 6 to 5 lead in the fourth inning. Hallie Autin would drive in Kelsey Cifreo to tie the game at 5. BRCC would take the lead when Blayne Pence scored on a Sydnee McCall  ground out.

Southeastern would take back the lead, in the fifth inning, when they would score 2 runs to take a 7 to 6 lead.  Baton Rouge would comeback in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead at 9 to 7.  The Blackhawks would not fold and tacted on a run in the sixth inning to trail 9 to 8. They would tie the game at 9 in the top of the seventh.

Similar to yesterday in game two with their backs against the wall the Lady Bears needed a rally in the seventh inning to pull out a win. Taryn McNabb would start the inning off with a single, Payge Hebert would reach on an error and Kelsey Cifreo would single.  Heather Gardner would be the hero when she took the first pitch she saw and drove it to the outfield scoring the winning run. Baton Rouge walked off with a 10 to 9 victory over Southeastern Community College.

Each team hit the ball well in game two. BRCC scattered 15 hits to 14 for Southeastern.

Shelby Breaux would come in relief for the Lady Bears and earn the victory. Rosado would get the loss for Southeastern.

Blayne Pence went 3 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI

Hallie Autin went 3 for 4 with 1 Run and 3 RBIs

Sara Tate went 3 for 4 with 2 Runs

Taryn McNabb went 2 for 4 with 1RBI

Kelsey Cifreo went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Heather Gardner went 1 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 Game Winning RBI

 

Lady Bears game tomorrow March 16 versus East Central has been postponed to next Friday March 23.  Game times yet to be announced.  The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday March 21 versus Lamar-Port Arthur in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Oak Villa Park.
