Lady Bears sweep the Blackhawks this afternoon at Oak Villa Park.  Both victories were via the walk off.  Lady Bears won game one 10 to 2, in five innings, and 7 to 6 in the second game.

Lady Bears take game one versus Southeastern Blackhawks 10 to 2, in a five inning run rule game. Southeastern jumped out to an early two run lead when Kaylin Featheringill hit a two run homerun off Lady Bear's pitcher Rene Firmin.  That was the only runs Rene would give up. 

The Lady Bears would get on the board in the second inning when they scored one run. Shelby McDonald started the inning with a walk followed by a Sara Tate single to right field. Tate would score on a Taryn McNabb double. After two inning, Southeastern held a 2 to 1 lead.

BRCC would get on the board, in the third inning, with three runs. Blayne Pence would open the inning with a walk and Hallie Autin would step up and hit a two run homerun over the centerfield wall. Shelby McDonald would then walk, Sara Tate would single to the shortstop and Payge Hebert would reach on an error to load the bases. Taryn McNabb would reach on an error, scoring a run in the process. After three innings, Baton Rouge had a 4 to 1 lead.

Baton Rouge would erupt for six runs in the fifth inning to end the game early via the run rule. Kelsey Cifreo would start the inning off with a single and Taryn McNabb would hit a double to put runners on second and third.  Heather Gardner would then hit a double to score Kelsey and Taryn.  Blayne Pence would be next up and she would hit a triple.  Blayne would score off a Hallie Autin single to centerfield.   Sara Tate would hit a double to score Hallie and Sydnee M.  The inning and the game would end when Payge Hebert hit a sharp single to shortstop which would score Shebly from third. 

Lady Bears pounded out 13 hits compared to 2 for the Blackhawks .  They also capitalized on 4 Southeastern errors. Rene Firmin got the win pitching 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 1.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Blayne Pence went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs

Hallie Autin went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 1 Homerun

Sara Tate went 3 for 4 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

Heather Gardner went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs

Taryn McNabb went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI 

 

Lady Bears had to rally, in the bottom of the seventh, to grab the 7 to 6 victory over the Blackhawks in game 2.  BRCC was first to score with two runs in the first. Blayne Pence opened the game with a single and scored on a triple by Hallie Autin. Hallie would score on a sac fly by Sydnee McCall.  After one inning, BRCC had a 2 to 0 lead.  Southeastern would get on the board in the second inning with one run.  BRCC would extend their lead, in the bottom of the  second inning, when Taryn McNabb opened the inning with a homerun to right field.  Lady Bears would tact on another run to take a 4 to 1 lead after two innings.

Southeastern would score two runs in the third inning to close the Bears lead to one, 4 to 3.  The Lady Bears would add a much needed insurance run in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 5 to 3.  Heather Gardner would single to left field to score Payge Hebert.

The Blackhawks would not go away and scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to grab a 6 to 5 lead. It was rally time for the Lady Bears.  Hallie Autin would get on base when she was hit by a pitch.  Sydnee Mccall would hit into a fielder's choice.  With her back against the wall and 2 outs and 2 strikes, Taryn McNabb would hit a clutch double to left field scoring McCall and Tate to win the game in walk off fashion.

Baton Rouge scattered 10 hits but committed 4 errors .

Shelby Breaux would get the win for the Lady Bears pitching 4.1 innings in relief. She allowed 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2.

Hallie Autin went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Sydnee McCall went 1 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Sara Tate went 2 for 4 with 1 Run

Taryn McNabb went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 3 RBI's.  She also hit a homerun over the right field wall

Kelsey Cifreo went 1 for 1 with 1 Run

Heather Gardner went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action tomorrow March 15 ,as they conclude their series with the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks.  Game times are 1 & 3 pm at Oak Villa Park.
