Lady Bears drop two to Lady Bulldogs

Lady Bears get swept by Lady Bulldogs, in their doubleheader, this afternoon at West Harrison High School. The story of the day for the Lady Bears was the lack of success against Mississippi Gulf Coast's pitching staff.  In game one, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Bears 5 to 0. Lady Bulldogs pitchers of Mingo, Hopson, Sexton and Sanders shut out the Lady Bears.  BRCC threatened in the first inning, loading the bases.  Blayne Pence started off with a leadoff hit to center field,  Hallie Autin singled to left field and Shelby McDonald was hit by a pitch to load the bases but all were stranded.  Mississippi Gulf Coast got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lady Bulldogs tacted on two more runs in the second inning and finished their scoring with one run in the fourth inning.  Baton Rouge had 4 hits in the first game compared to 8 hits by MGCCC.  Betty Mingo got the win, pitching four innings allowing zero runs on four hits, and striking out four Lady Bears. Renee Firmin took the loss for the Lady Bears pitching four inning giving up four runs on four hits.

Mississippi Gulf Coast defeated Baton Rouge 5 to 2 in the nightcap.  BRCC came out of the gates swinging in the first inning and scored a run. Blayne Pence again led off the game with a double to centerfield,and  Hallie Autin sacrifices to advance Blayne to third. Sydnee McCall singles to the shortstop which scores Blayne.  After one inning, BRCC held a 1-0 lead of Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Lady Bulldogs got on the board  first ,in the second inning, scoring four runs and again, in the fifth inning, with one run.  After five innings, MGCCC had a 5 to 1 lead over BRCC.  Baton Rouge would add a run in the sixth inning when Sydnee McCall opened the inning with a triple to left field and scored on a single by Cori Breaux.  BRCC had 7 hits compared to MGCCC's 8 hits. Sydnee Davis grabbed the win for the Lady Bulldogs pitching four and two-thirds innings allowing one run on five hits, while Renee Firmin took the loss for the Lady Bears pitching six innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and striking out two.
