Lady Bears Softball lose in extra inning to Pearl River

It came down to the last play in extra innings, when the Pearl River Wildcats  doubled to scored two runs to win the game 9 to 7 over the Lady Bears in eight innings.  Pearl River took an early 5 to 2 lead over the Lady Bears.  Beside scoring two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first, Baton Rouge played from behind the whole game.  The Lady Bears kept fighting till the end when they tied the game in the seventh inning.

Baton Rouge started their scoring in the top of the first inning, when Blayne Pence singled to left field followed by a homerun by Hallie Autin.  Pearl River picked up  one run in the bottom of the first when D. Wesley doubled to left field and later scored on a double by E. Taggard.  After one inning, the Lady Bears held a 2 to 1 lead over the Wildcats. Pearl River added three runs in the second inning, off a N.McLeod homerun , a double by D. Wesley that scored A. Cooley and ground out by E.Taggard that scored Wesley.  Shelby Breaux came in to pitch for BRCC and shut down the Wildcats till the eighth inning.

BRCC picked up runs in the fourth and the fifth. The score after five innings was Lady Bears 4 and Wildcats 5.  The game was tied at 5, in the top of the seventh, when Lady Bear's  Emily Morin reached on an error by the pitcher, then scored on a Blayne Pence double.  The game was tied at 5 at the end of regulation.  In the top of the eighth, Sara Tate hit a two run homerun to take a 7 to 5 lead over the Wildcats.  Pearl River mounted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at 7 and then H. Melone hit a double with two runners on to get the 9 to 7 win over the Lady Bears.

Pearl River had 12 hits on the day while Baton Rouge managed 9 hits.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Blayne Pence went 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Hallie Autin went 2 for 4, with a homerun and 2 RBI's

Sara Tate went 2 for 3 with a homerun and 2 RBI's

Shelby Breaux pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 strike outs

 

The Lady Bears will conclude the Pearl River tournament later today against East Mississippi Community College Lions.
